Although they were glimpsed last month at the E3 Expo, PC maker Alienware has taken the wraps off limited edition Superman-themed Area-51 laptop and desktop systems sporting Superman-themed custom art, themes, and mousepads. The systems, of course, tie in to the upcoming film Superman Returns. Each individually-numbered system comes with a certificate of authenticity from Alienware CEO Nelson Gonzalez.

The desktop system features two impressively detailed mural art pieces by comic artist Tommy Lee and touts Pentium D dual core processor up to 3.46 GHz, liquid cooling, an 800 MHz frontside bus, and 4 MB of Level 2 cache, plus support for up to 2 GB of memory. Graphics, storage, and add-ons all vary with configurations, which can be extensively customized to individual orders

Alienware just changed everything you know about its desktops
Alienware Aurora R16 sitting on a desk.

Alienware's flagship gaming desktop is getting a serious makeover. The new Aurora R16, which is available to purchase now, ditches the angular, obtuse design of Alienware's previous models in favor of a design that feels familiar yet -- if you'll excuse the pun -- alien.

That's clear by looking at an image of the redesigned Aurora R16 above. It's a mid-tower box, much unlike a machine like the Aurora R15, with its massive footprint and large plastic covering that makes it feel much larger than it actually is. the Aurora R16 fits in much better now with the standard crop of gaming desktops, though it still has some unique design choices.

Alienware just invalidated its own high-end esports monitor
Overwatch 2 running on the Alienware 500Hz gaming monitor.

Alienware has a new batch of 27-inch monitors it's releasing, but one of them stands out from the rest: the AW2724HF. It's a 27-inch, 1080p display for $460, but it comes with a 360Hz refresh rate, which could make it one of the best gaming monitors on the market.

The big reason why is that Alienware released its AW2524H just a few months ago. That 1080p display with a 500Hz refresh rate costs almost twice as much as the AW2724HF. Although the difference between 360Hz and 500Hz sounds like a lot for competitive gaming, it's really not.

I love my OLED gaming monitor, but I feel like it’s gaslighting me
Desktop background on the Alienware 34 QD-OLED.

Most lists that count down the best gaming monitors produce a common result at the top: Alienware's 34 QD-OLED. Even after almost a year on the market, it remains the reigning champ in the world of gaming displays, so much so that I bought one a few months ago to upgrade my own personal setup.

And I love it. There's really only one problem that I've encountered: the incessant nagging to refresh the panel to prevent OLED burn-in.
