Microsoft Releases Vista Beta 2

Microsoft today released Windows Vista Beta 2, Windows Server “Longhorn” Beta 2 and 2007 Microsoft Office System Beta 2. The computer software giant sees this as a significant milestone as it is the first time they’ve ever released beta versions of their three flagship products at the same time.

Enterprise customers will begin experiencing Windows Vista Beta 2 today via the “Customer Technology Preview” channels. The beta will also be made generally available to the public in June.

With the release of Beta 2, Microsoft said, they’ve “focused on improving the experience, reliability and overall quality of Windows Vista for both enterprise and enthusiast audiences, providing a more complete and productive testing environment for customers”.

Microsoft urges consumers before downloading the beta to utilize the Windows Vista Upgrade advisor to test their PCs’ ability to handle the software requirements before installing it. If compatible, they be able to begin experiencing new features such as Windows Media Player 11, enhancements to Media Center, new photo capabilities, and enhanced organizational tools.

Microsoft may have found a sneaky way to make you use Bing
The new Bing preview screen appears on a Surface Laptop Studio.

Microsoft is trying out a pretty unusual strategy to stop Bing users from switching to Google when they need to search for something. As spotted by Reddit users, and reported on by Windows Latest, if you type "Google" into Bing right now, you'll be taken to a results page with a special header that happens to look similar to the Google search bar.

The page even loads with Bing's top search bar hidden -- you need to scroll up to make it appear. Since what you're looking at is actually Bing, it doesn't say "Google" above the centered search bar. Still, the style of the search bar and the illustration is similar to what you might often find in Google.

Microsoft’s new ergonomic keyboard has ‘ultra-responsive’ keys
Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard

Just when you thought you were done shopping for now, Incase, the manufacturer of the Microsoft accessory line, revealed a new compact yet expensive keyboard on its website. The ergonomic keyboard offers solid specs, but the high price tag might make some potential buyers think twice about getting it.

It offers "ultra-responsive" scissor keys with 1.3mm travel, allowing you to type without pressing the keys too hard. Incase claims you can sync up to three devices to the Microsoft keyboard with Bluetooth 4.0, but you will need two AAA batteries that Incase claims will last 36 months. As a perk, the batteries come bundled with the keyboard, so you won't have to buy them separately.
