Microsoft slashes Surface Pro 3 prices by up to $150

Rumor has it that the next Surface systems is coming soon, perhaps at Microsoft’s late April BUILD conference. Now it seems the company may be looking to clear out inventory in preparation of that announcement.

Every version of the Surface Pro 3 except the entry level Core i3 model has been slashed by $100, starting with the Core i5, 128GB version, which is now just $899.

The quicker and more expensive models have received an even more aggressive $150 discount, however. That includes the Core i5 and i7 models with 256GB solid state drive, and the Core i7 model with 512GB SSD.

Microsoft has not said how long the sale will last. It could end today, or it could continue until the next Surface models are announced. Budget-minded buyers might try to wait out for an even better deal, but don’t hold your breath; these cuts are already deep, particularly on the Core i5 model.

Microsoft is giving up control of the Copilot key

In a Windows Insider Blog post, Microsoft recently announced that it is rolling out the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.4225 (KB5043186) update. It's a relatively small update, but it finally gives users control of the dedicated Copilot key that's showing up on an increasing number of laptops.

In the blog post, Microsoft detailed how it is giving users more customization freedom by adding the option to configure the Copilot key, which can open an app that's MSIX packaged and signed. This is good news since the app meets security and privacy requirements to keep your PC safe. When the option is available more broadly, you should find it by going to Settings > Personalization> Text Input.

AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D might show up sooner than expected

AMD might be moving on 3D V-Cache versions of its Ryzen 9000 CPUs faster than expected. According to a leaker on the Chiphell forums, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which could be among the best processors when it releases, might arrive as soon as next month.

VideoCardz dug up the news, which started on the Chiphell forums. The leaker goes by the name zhangzhonhao, but VideoCardz notes that they went under a different alias previously, and that they have a long history of leaking company road maps. The forum post claims AMD will release the Ryzen 7 9800X3D at the end of October, while the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and Ryzen 9 9950X3D will arrive later. The leaker suspects they'll show up in early 2025 with "some new features."

Meta Connect 2024 is tomorrow, which means the much-leaked Meta Quest 3S is about to be revealed (we hope). Despite the event being only hours away, however, there are still more leaks to be had.

The latest information, spotted by TechRadar, suggests that with the launch of the 3S, Meta will discount both Meta Quest 3 models and stop production of the 128GB model sometime in November.
