Mozilla Tries To Move More To Firefox 3

When the Firefox 3 browser was released earlier this year, it was to great fanfare and even a world record for the most downloads in 24 hours. But it would appear that a number of those with older versions ignored Firefox 3, preferring to stick with what they new.

Now Mozilla has launched a campaign to make converts of them and encourage them to upgrade and make Firefox 3 the standard, Vnunet reports.

When they launched Firefox 2, they’ll see a pop-up window offering them the chance to upgrade, or delay their decision – or never be asked again. But in an effort to persuade, the pop-up will list the improvements.

The browser doesn’t have an automatic update facility, unlike Apple with Safari and Microsoft with Internet Explorer, and the new features included also requite a new end user license.

And what about those plug-in. Mozilla has estimated that around 10% of Firefox 2 plug-in won’t be compatible with the newest version, and will alter users of the fact in a dialog box. But the company says that new versions of many of those plug-ins are available.
