Panasonic Debuts 7 Series Toughbooks

Panasonic Debuts 7 Series Toughbooks

If you’ve been yearning for a fully-rugged  Panasonic Toughbook ever since you spotted one riding shotgun in a police cruiser while you were in the back, but haven’t been able to afford one ever since you posted bail, Panasonic has a toned-down version for you – the new 7-series Toughbooks.

The series includes the W7, an ultraportable laptop, the T7, a lightweight tablet, and the Y7, a fully-featured laptop that still manages to be the lightest in its 14.1-inch screen class. All three use Intel Core 2 Duo Processors with heat and power management technology from Panasonic that has been massaged to extend battery life and cut overheating.

Panasonic calls the new notebooks business rugged, rather than fully rugged like its field-ready comrades. Think along the lines of the Hummer H2: stylish, tough and capable like it’s older brother the H1, but not quite able to stop bullets, mount a 50 caliber machine gun, or wade through waist-deep water. While fully rugged Toughbooks are mil-spec rated to take a fall from 36 inches and survive, the 7 series gets a 12-inch rating, or 30 inches for its shock-mounted hard drive alone. The 7 series notebooks can, however, still withstand over 220 lbs of pressure on their magnesium cases, and handle spills of more than 6 ounces into their keyboards.

The only new Toughbook available now is the Y7, which goes for $2,449. The W7 and T7 will become available in December, both at $2,099.

Nvidia’s RTX 40-series is coming to an end
Three RTX 4080 cards sitting on a pink background.

Out with the old, in with the new. According to Board Channels, Nvidia has now halted production for nearly all of its best graphics cards as it shifts focus to the RTX 50-series. Only one GPU remains in production, and some of the cards that are the most in demand are no longer being produced.

Nvidia hasn't officially announced that it's sunsetting the RTX 40-series, but we've been hearing more and more reports that imply that might be the case. The RTX 4090 was among the first cards to go out of production, and the discontinuation appears to have immediately affected the markets. Nvidia's behemoth flagship was hard to come by at the best of times, and now, as no more new units are being produced, it's safe to assume that this situation won't improve. The cheapest RTX 4090 I could find on Amazon costs nearly $2,000, but you can still snag one for .

This is the one gaming CPU I recommend over the Ryzen 7 9800X3D
Pads on the bottom of the Ryzen 9 7950X.

AMD's new Ryzen 7 9800X3D is already one of the best processors you can buy. It delivers productivity and gaming gains across the board, though not in equal strides. Despite the improvements AMD made, the last-gen Ryzen 7 7800X3D is still potent competition, particularly when it comes to gaming.

These are two of the go-to gaming CPUs right now, and although the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is newer and faster, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is still the right CPU for most people. That becomes clear when you look at the main focus of these CPUs -- gaming performance -- and how prices are starting to settle.
