If the announcement of two new Gateway monitors plus an affordable 20-incher from Envision all in 24 hours wasn’t enough for the prospective monitor buyer, Samsung has one more for you. The company announced a new 19-inch LCD for consumer and retail applications on Thursday.
The SyncMaster 942BW gets 1440 x 900 resolution and a quick 5ms grey-to-grey response time for watching movies or playing fast-paced games. It’s 500:1 contrast ratio and 300 cd/m2 brightness are both relatively unimpressive compared to similar monitors. Of course, since Samsung is pushing this monitor for business, the extra desktop space is to “support multiple simultaneous application windows, thereby helping to improve work efficiency,” not “watch Mad Max and play Quake 4.”
Both monitors get Samsung’s MagicTune on-screen interface and MagicBright brightness settings, which allow users to set brightness, contrast and gamma correction based on application. HDCP and DVI inputs are both standard.
The 942BW has an MSRP of $249.99, and sells directly through Samsung and authorized dealers.
