One problem with all the SD and microSD media folks use in their cameras, camcorders, phones, and other devices is that getting data to and from the cards to a notebook or desktop computer can often be a hassle: too often computers don’t have card readers (ever seen a Mac with an SD card slot?), and when time is tight inevitably users don’t have a USB-capable lost device to complete a chain from their computer to their media.
Storage and accessory developer LaCie is riding to the rescue with its new DataShare, a simpel device that lets users access SD and microSD media via USB: just pop the media cards into the DataShare, then put the DataShare into an available USB port. The DataShare not only enables users to pull media and other data directly off their SD and microSD drives, but also provides a way for users to recycle their older, lower-capacity media into still-useful ISB drives.
“The DataShare is a stylish way to make sure you can easily access and secure all of your data,” said LaCie product manager Alexis Kobassian, in a statement. “We live in a culture that requires true data mobility and portability. At LaCie, we’re consistently innovating and producing accessories that have sophisticated design, and the highest level of usability and functionality.”
Designed by 5.5 Designers, the DataShare sports two differently-colored sides; users can choose to use one for, say, personal data and the other for shared information. Both sides support high-speed USB 2.0 transfer rates. The devices work with Class 1 to 6 SDHC and microSDHC cards as well.
The DataShare is available now through LaCie’s online store for $9.95.
