Ubuntu Ready to Unleash Gutsy Gibbon

Ubuntu Ready to Unleash Gutsy Gibbon

Ubuntu’s unusual naming scheme – an adjective and a noun, progressing alphabetically with every release – may raise eyebrows among those not yet familiar with it, but for the growing crowd of Ubuntu devotees, every goofy new name represents more goodies. And Ubuntu 7.10, Gutsy Gibbon, is no different.

The latest release, due out on Thursday, will sport a variety of new features that make it flashier and more user friendly. One major upgrade: Compiz Fusion will be enabled by default, bringing 3D effects to the desktop. In the past, Compiz was solely the domain of elite Linux users who had the skills to deal with install it on their own. Gutsy will also come with the latest GNOME 2.20 desktop environment.

New users should also be less boggled by drivers thanks to a new graphics configuration tool that will allows them to select which driver to use for their cards, and play with other settings. Printers will also be installed automatically – just plug them in and turn them on. Windows users will also have an easier time switching over, since Ubuntu can now read and write on NTFS partitions by default, meaning all the data accessible under a Windows install is now accessible through Ubuntu as well.

Ubuntu will officially release Gutsy Gibbon on Thursday, but for those that can’t wait, a release candidate is available now. Like most Linux distributions, Gutsy Gibbon will be available completely free of charge.

ces wasnt ready for vision pro asus air 2 01

The Vision Pro is coming. Really soon. Its release date announcement, while not technically made at CES, may as well have been.

And yet, most people haven't used the headset, and don't know what it really does. And that's OK. But surely the technologists at CES 2024 would be a bit more equipped for what's about to hit us in the near future, right? Surely, there would be companies at CES who came to the show prepared to challenge Apple -- or at least complement its technology.

Intel may be ready to launch a new monster CPU
Intel's 14900K CPU socketed in a motherboard.

Intel may be getting ready to add to its lineup of the best processors, and this time around, we're talking about a real monster of a CPU. A new leaked image of the rumored Core i9-14900KS tells us that its launch may not be that far away, and according to reports, the chip is said to be able to reach 6.2GHz right out of the box. But one question remains: Is this image even real?

The photo was posted by HXL (9550pro) earlier today. HXL is a well-known leaker when it comes to CPUs, but even the poster is not sure if the image is fake or not. Even if it is real, they're uncertain whether Intel will launch this CPU. While the image looks real enough, there are some slight inconsistencies in the lettering on the heat sink between the Core i9-14900KS and the Core i9-13900KS.
