Storage vendor Western Digital has introduced a new version of its dual-drive My Book Studio Edition II external hard drives that offers a 4 TB capacity. Aimed at Mac-using creative professionals—the drives are Time Machine-compatible and preformatted for use with Macs, although of course they can be reformatted for Windows—the drives feature a RAID 0 configuration and WD’s “GreenPower Technology” to quiet operation and power savings.
“The new My Book Studio Edition II is the best choice for creative professionals who require massive capacity and extra-fast performance,” said WD marking VP Dale Pistilli, in a statement. “With four terabytes of capacity, photographers, graphic artists, videographers, and home video enthusiasts alike will have the space they need to store hours of high definition videos as well as the performance they need for demanding video editing applications.”
The drives feature four interfaces—eSATA, FireWire 800, FireWire 400, and USB 2.0—and feature user-accessible drive bays so users can swap out drives in the event of a failure. The units also sport a capacity gauge so users can see at a glance how much space they have remaining.
The 4 TB version of the My Book Studio Edition II drive is available now with a suggested retail price of $649.99; the units are also available in 1 TB and 2 TB capacities.
