If the idea of getting your hands on the beta of Microsoft’s new OS, Windows 7, excites you, then rest easy. From tomorrow it will be available to the general public, having already become available to MSDN, TechBeta and TechNet subscribers.
That was the announcement at CES yesterday by company chief executive Steve Ballmer. A pre-release beta was issued in October, and a full release is expected by the end of 2009 or early 2010.
Microsoft’s UK Windows chief, John Curran, told ZDNet that the beta will be “feature complete” and said that the OS is "designed and optimized for the mobile PC, whether it is a netbook or a laptop." He added that:
"Any hardware that runs Vista, you can have confidence it will run Windows 7 the same or better without a hardware upgrade."
