Clarion’s DB365USB offers a new twist on trying to hook up your digital music player to your car audio system. Instead of messing with cassette adapters, miniature FM transmitters, or expensive manufacturer-installed iPod docks, the DB365USB offers a front-panel USB slot: just get yourself one of those tiny, inexpensive USB flash drives, load it with your favorite tunes, and away you go.
The DB365USB supports MP3 and WMA files; the unit can handle up to 255 tracks with file names up to 28 characters long. Folder names can be up to 16 characters long. Despite those limitations, the unit is smart enough to pick up on ID3 tags, so it’s 13×8 high contrast display can at least show some useful information about the tunes.
Past that, the DB365USB is a typical Clarion offering: 4-channel MOS-FET amp with 50 watts per channel, CD-R/RW compatibility, 2-channel AUX input, 4-channel RCA output, AM/FM receiver wit presets, a detachable control panel, and its Z-Enhancer and Magna Bass EQ systems to help make your tunes’ thump and sizzle compete with road noise. Retail prices sit around $250, but car audio specialists seem to offer the unit at about $100 less, although often with installation.
