Netflix Hit By Outage

Netflix Hit By Outage

When your business depends on sending out new orders, a computer problem stopping you from doing that is disastrous. But that’s what’s happened to DVD rental company Netflix.

The company first reported the problem on Tuesday, according to Vnunet, letting customers know that due to a computer problem it was unable to ship discs or acknowledge returns in the usual manner.

By Wednesday the company had some of its distribution centers up and running, but much of the system remained down, and as of yesterday about half its centers were still not working. Netflix is offering customers credit as compensation.

In a blog post yesterday, Netflix head of operations Andy Rendrich wrote:

"We were able to ship some DVDs from about half of our distribution centers yesterday but we haven’t yet been able to resume shipping this morning. We’re as frustrated about this as you are and we once again apologize for the inconvenience."

The issue hasn’t affected Netflix’s video streaming service.
