Yahoo has combined features from its own Yahoo Music Engine and MusicMatch Jukebox (which it acquired back in 2004), rolled them together, and come up with the Yahoo Music Jukebox, a new desktop client for Yahoo music users which offers new features and services while promising to unite Yahoo’s confusingly divided music offerings.
“This new version of the Yahoo Music Jukebox enables our users to take advantage of the combined strengths of the Yahoo Music Engine and the Musicmatch Jukebox in one fully-integrated experience,” said Dave Goldberg, Yahoo Music vice president and general manager. “The merged product reflects the hard work of our engineering and product teams in building a best-of-breed media player for digital music fans.”
Two versions of the Yahoo Music Jukebox are available. The free version enables basic functionality, allowing users to rip, burn, mix, import, and transfer music to selected portable devices. The $19.99 Yahoo Music Jukebox Plus offers premium features like faster CD ripping and burning, CD printing, and audio enhancement for imported MP3 files. As with previous Yahoo Music offerings, the Yahoo Music Jukebox is available for Windows (XP) only; no Mac or Linux versions are available.
