How to add cross-platform friends in Back 4 Blood

The team from Turtle Rock made such a strong first impression with the first Left 4 Dead that Valve brought the team under their wing to make the sequel, plus some great DLC. These games were the gold standard for cooperative zombie shooters until, well, that same team left to make Back 4 Blood. Taking advantage of the generations of improvements that have been made since Left 4 Dead 2, this modern game is still built around the simple concept of getting some friends together and shooting your way through hundreds and hundreds of zombies across a series of missions.

One thing Back 4 Blood takes advantage of that wasn’t even considered possible when the Left 4 Dead games were coming out was cross-platform support. Now it is easier than ever to play with friends regardless of whether they’re on Xbox, PlayStation, or PC. However, there isn’t a universal system for how cross-platform play works just yet, so actually joining up with your friends for the first time isn’t quite as straightforward as a simple button press. If you want to get the gang together for some zombie-slaying fun, here’s how to add cross-platform friends in Back 4 Blood.

Back 4 Blood is meant to be played with friends and is made to make it as easy as possible for you to join up with friends across all available platforms. That includes the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. If you have friends you want to make lobbies with, you will need to add them as friends first.

To add a friend on a different platform, the process is identical to adding a friend if they were on the same platform within Back 4 Blood. You may remember that when you first launched the game, you were given a username just for this game that looks like your tag on Xbox or PlayStation with a few numbers tied to the end of it. This is essentially your cross-platform ID. Once in the game, first go to Fort Hope and open the Social section of the menu. Here, select the Add Friends option to bring up a search bar. Then you just need to type in your friend’s Back 4 Blood ID and find them and add them to your friends list.

Once they, or you if they end up adding your name, get a friend request, simply accept it and create a party to start playing with your squad of choice! Once they’re on your friends list, the process will be that easy going forward.

How to turn cross-platform play on or off

You can also turn cross-platform play on or off in general, allowing matchmaking to occur across all platforms as well. The game will give you this option right away when you first launch it, but if you want to access it again, the setting is a little buried. Again from the menu in Fort Hope, when selecting a mission, open up the Settings menu and hit Preferences. Here there is a toggle for crossplay, which is automatically set to enabled. If you would rather not play against PC players in PvP for example, then this is how you’d restrict matches you find to only be on your console.

Is Genshin Impact cross-platform?
Several characters from Genshin Impact in key art.

Ever since we set foot in the world of Teyvat, Genshin Impact has become one of the best free-to-play games we've ever experienced. Mixing an anime-inspired art style with the exploration of Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom, plus a huge roster of appealing characters, this massive game's popularity hasn't died down since its release. Even after Zenless Zone Zero came out, we're still hooked on Genshin.

While it isn't a multiplayer game in the traditional sense like Fallout 76 is, there are ways to connect with others. Plus, being on mobile, PC, and PlayStation (with Xbox soon to come), it would be the perfect choice for a cross-platform game. With mobile games like this, you never know if you're locked down on whatever platform you started on. Here's all the cross-platform information for Genshin Impact.

Is Dauntless cross-platform?
Dauntless player attacking Behemoth.

Dauntless was built from the ground up to challenge the Monster Hunter franchise, and it succeeded in doing so. If features massive weapons, even bigger bosses, and the addictive loop of preparing for a long hunt and engaging in a tough, drawn-out fight with an intimidating monster. One of the big draws was that it is completely free, like Rocket League and Genshin Impact, but those are also so popular because they're cross-platform games. There's nothing quite as thrilling as gathering up a group of hunters to take down a giant beast, but if you can't due to playing on different platforms, it will quickly take the wind out of your sails. Here is everything you need to know about whether Dauntless is cross-platform.
Is Dauntless cross-platform?
Yes, Dauntless supports cross-platform play across PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. Crossplay is automatically set as on by default on each platform so you shouldn't need to make any changes to start playing with friends on other systems.

Dauntless also includes cross-progression using the in-game account to transfer your progress to any platform. If you ever feel like picking the game up on another console or PC, there's nothing stopping you from continuing the hunt right where you left off.

Is Path of Exile 2 cross-platform?
A barbarian character in Path of Exile 2.

After Diablo 3 fumbled the bag, we needed a new ARPG to fill the void Diablo 2 left in our souls. Path of Exile answered that call and then some. It didn't just give fans what Blizzard failed to deliver but kept on supporting, and adding to the game for close to a decade kept it popular even after Diablo 4 came out. Path of Exile 2 wasn't even supposed to be a sequel at first, but when the scope became so large that it couldn't fit as an expansion, it was spun off into a full release.

Path of Exile 2 hasn't forgotten what made the first game so much fun, and a large part of that was adventuring and fighting with friends online. The new addition of couch co-op is awesome, but what about players who need to team up online? The first game wasn't a cross-platform game initially, but the sequel hit consoles and PC at once, so you need to be up to date on whether it has cross-platform support.
Does Path of Exile 2 have cross-platform support?
Fear not, Exiles, because Path of Exile 2 has complete crossplay support. No matter if you are on PlayStation with a friend on Xbox and another on PC, or any other combination, you will all be able to dive into the demented world of Path of Exile 2 together to grind levels and loot to your heart's desire just like in Destiny 2 or Genshin Impact. It goes without saying, but obviously you can only play local co-op on the same platform since it requires both players to be on the same system.
