Capcom Announces New Online Titles

Capcom last week detailed four new downloadable video games coming to Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and the PC. These titles are part of the company’s "Digital Initative" to offer better quality downloadable games.

The first game, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, is the latest incarnation in the series of the same name and features "newly created 1080p HD graphics, several new game modes, improved game balance, new stage backgrounds courtesy of Udon Entertainment and online play." This title is joined by Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, which will use "the original game code while upgrading the graphics with new artwork and high resolution 1080p images. Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will include both online and offline competition for one to two players."

Video games may actually be good for you, a new study claims
A person enjoys gaming with Viture Pro smart glasses and Pro Neckband.

Despite all the claims, playing video games won't rot your brain. More and more studies have shown that playing video games -- in moderation, of course -- comes with its own set of benefits, including improved coordination, better spatial recognition, and much more. Now a new study suggests that in addition to cognitive buffs, gaming can actually help improve your mental health.

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown, Japanese scientists found themselves with a bit of a natural experiment on their hands. Retailers had created a randomized lottery to fairly distribute Nintendo Switch consoles, and this lottery allowed the scientists to study the link between gaming and overall mental well-being. The study analyzed 97,602 responses from gamers between the ages of 10 and 69, according to The Brighter Side.

New Elder Scrolls mod adds more than 160 new quests to Morrowind
A screenshot from the Abecean Shores Morrowind mod.

The Elder Scrolls VI isn't coming anytime soon, despite how badly we all want it. Even Avowed -- the next closest thing to an Elder Scrolls game we're likely to see -- isn't out until mid-February. If you need something to tide you over, a new mod for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind adds a huge amount of content to the game that makes it worth firing up this 22-year-old gem.

Abecean Shores, a section of the much-larger and still unfinished Project Cyrodiil, is now available. If you recognize the name, then you'll probably be able to guess the setting: the shores of Cyrodiil, the Imperial homeland and the setting for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The mod creators have added a truly ridiculous amount of content into Morrowind, including more than 160 new quests, according to PCGamesN.
