The announcement of a new Civilization game is one of the only things that strikes both joy and fear into the hearts of fans in equal measure. On one hand, they know they’re about to begin one of the most engaging, frustrating, rewarding, and deep 4X games ever created. On the other, they know that booting this game up has the mystical power to fast-forward time by multiple hours in the blink of an eye. You might start a game at 9 p.m., planning to play a few rounds, only to look back at the clock and see that it’s 6 a.m. the following morning. Before you start coming up with excuses to get out of work and stockpiling microwavable food, here’s everything we know so far about Civilization 7.

Trailers

Sid Meier’s Civilization VII - Official Teaser Trailer

We got the first teaser trailer for Civilization 7 during the 2024 Summer Game Fest. It is only CGI footage that pans through models of various cultures in battle with a voice-over and no in-game footage.

Additional trailers debuted during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024 and are detailed in the Gameplay section below.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VII - Gameplay Reveal Trailer

As promised, we got our first look at gameplay during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024. After a brief run-through of the series’ history, we finally see Civilization 7 in action. Graphically, it is far superior to any game before it, but it still has that same style and readability, with exaggerated people and a grid-based map. Several civilizations are shown, such as the Aztecs, Egyptians, and ancient Chinese, as well as modern militaries with tanks and planes.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VII - Official Gameplay Showcase

Civilization 7 came back not long after its trailer at Opening Night Live as the subject of a more in-depth stream that goes over gameplay. It also revealed that Gwendoline Christie of Game of Thrones fame will be the new narrator.

The gameplay went over a lot of the expected mechanics for a Civ game, such as building your empire and negotiating with other historical figures across history. However, this time around, you can select a leader independently from the civilization you’re leading. This opens up untold possibilities for playstyles and new ways to shape your growing empire.

Multiplayer will allow players to compete in both standard games that can last quite the length of time or shorter single-age sessions. It was also revealed that Civilization 7 will be a cross-platform game.

There have been several games based on the hit Nickelodeon show Avatar: The Last Airbender, but never one that managed to live up to the source material's legacy. After The Legend of Korra in 2014, we haven't had any new games that let us experience the world of elemental bending. That's all about to change now that Paramount Games and Saber Interactive have announced that a new Avatar AAA RPG is in the works. We've mastered all four elements to bring you as much information about this new chapter in the Avatar saga as possible.
Release date speculation
This new Avatar: The Last Airbender game is so early in development that we don't even know what its official title is yet. All we know is that the game is in its very early stages and is poised to be "the biggest video game in franchise history." If this will indeed be a AAA game, we could be waiting four or more years for this game to come to fruition. We'll keep you updated on the timeline as we get more information.

No platforms were confirmed for this new Avatar game. Saber Interactive typically releases all its games on every platform, so we would assume it will come to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series  X, PC, and perhaps even whatever the Switch 2 ends up being.
Trailers
We have no footage, screenshots, or even concept art for the Avatar game. However, we do know what direction the team is going with the world and story.

The two protagonists of Gears of War: E-Day.

Microsoft and The Coalition have opted to take the Gears of War franchise back to its roots with Gears of War: E-Day, a prequel that will follow beloved characters Marcus Fenix and Dominic (Dom) Santiago during their first fight against the invading Locust horde. This new mainline entry will feature everything fans have come to love about the series alongside fresh experiences only achievable on the newest hardware.

Of course, some players may be disappointed to hear that the next game isn't Gears 6 — but there's good news on that front. Fans eager to know what happened after the conclusion of Gears 5 can rest easy knowing that the team isn't abandoning that storyline.

Believe it or not, it has been over a decade since the last GTA game. While tons of people are still dumping hundreds of hours into GTA Online, we're likely less than a year away from the generation-defining moment when Grand Theft Auto 6 drops. As time crawls painfully slow toward that eventual release date, we have a lot more solid ground to cover in terms of what GTA 6 will offer. There's no question that this is the most anticipated upcoming PlayStation 5 game, even compared to Assassin's Creed Shadows and Monster Hunter Wilds. If you're checking our list of all upcoming video games to see if GTA 6 has a date yet, this is where you need to be instead, so let's hotwire a car and pull off a heist to get all the information there is about GTA 6.

Of course, GTA 6 is also the biggest name on the list of upcoming Xbox Series X games and upcoming PC games, but it isn't on our upcoming Switch games list.
