Cable operator Comcast has been operating GameInvasion.net as a private service for its High-Speed Internet customers—folks who pay to receive up to 8 Mbps service via cable Internet connections. Now, the cable company is opening the site’s doors to the whole world, having teamed up with Major Gaming League (MGL) to distribute MLG’s television show, MLG Pro Circuit, on both GameInvasion.net and Comcast’s Video-on-Demand service. The GameInvasion.net site wil also feature exclusive interviews and tips from the Frag Dolls, Ubisoft‘s all-female pro gaming team, along with news, videos, and reviews from GameTrailers.com, IGN, and G4 Television.
“GameInvasion.net demonstrates Comcast’s commitment to meeting the increasingly sophisticated demands of the gaming community,” said Jen MacLean, Comcast Interactive Media’s General Manager for Games. “With exclusive content and a video-centric interface, our goal is to offer a cutting-edge gaming destination for loyal fans.”
[Living in an area where Comcast holds the local cable monopoly, we note that the GameInvasion.net site hasn’t been accessible at all for some time now, and, in our experience, this is indeed demonstrative of Comcast’s level of commitment to its customers.]
Comcast says its 8 Mbps subscribers who previously received GameInvasion as part of their service plan will now receive a free membership in the IGN Founders Club, a premium online gaming package.
