Electronic Arts has announced its new boarding-themed video game Skate will go on sale for the Xbox 360 on September 12 in the United States and September 14 in Europe—but players who just have to get a taste now will be able to grab a Skate demo from Xbox Live Marketplace starting August 15. PlayStation 3 owners will be able to get their hands on the game starting September 24 in the U.S. and on October 5 in Europe.
EA introduced the new skateboarding title at this year’s E3 conference; in the game, players take on the role of competitive skateboarders working to get coverage in Thrasher and The Skateboard Mag. When players get enough coverage, they get sponsors, products, money, and recognition; eventually, they’ll be invited to the skateboarding competition in the world-famous X Games.
Skate will offer a new “FlickIt” control system which leverages the dual analog sticks on game controls to give players the ability to create their own tricks and skate styles. The game will also feature a skate.reel feature enabling players to capture video of their mad skillz and share the footage with other gamers online.
Skate is rated T for “Teen” by the ESRB; it will carry a suggested U.S. price of $59.95 for the Xbox 360 and a barely-distinguishable $59.99 for the PlayStation 3.
