Although they announced it in August, 2006, Sierra Entertainment has finally shipped the first title in its genre-combining F.E.A.R. (First Encounter Assault Recon) franchise for the PlayStation 3, bringing the games rated-M mix of first-person shooter and horror to Sony’s top-of-the-line game console.
“The F.E.A.R. franchise has sold over 2 million copies since inception and now PlayStation 3 system users will be the latest to experience the true meaning of F.E.A.R.,” said Pascal Brochier, president, Global Retail for Vivendi Games. “We’re excited to bring this award winning, bone chilling title to the PlayStation 3 system console and expect an entire new base of gamers to become fans of F.E.A.R.”
In the game, players assume the role of a soldier confronting unusual and horrifying combat situations in a storyline which combines first-person, action-movie thrills with supernatural game play and suspense. The PlayStation 3 edition of the game supports up to 16 gamers in a multiplayer mode, and a new Instant Action Mode which tracks a play’er progress in cose quarters via leaderboards for the PlayStation Network. The PS3 edition also features an exclusive level and a unique weapon.
F.E.A.R. for the PS3 carries a suggested price of $59.99, and is rated M for “Mature” by the ESRB.
