News surrounding the upcoming big-screen adaptation of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney has been in short supply lately, but the most recent update is a big one.

Today we get our first look at actor Hiroki Narimiya as Phoenix Wright, the heroic defense attorney out to prove his worth in the courtroom. Slated for a 2012 release, the film is directed by celebrated filmmaker Takashi Miike (Audition, Ichi the Killer).

The photo popped up on a Japanese-language site earlier today, and was discovered by the eagle-eyed Kotaku crew.

For those who haven’t caught on to the Ace Attorney craze, the unique game first hit the Japanese market in 2001 as a title for the Game Boy Advance. It was was subsequently rereleased (and upgraded) for the Nintendo DS. It sold remarkably well, and the North American version initially sold out several times over due to unexpected demand. There have also been successful Wii and iOS ports of the game since that time.

Game spending is up — and you can thank Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

Most of us knew that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 would be one of the biggest games of the year, but it's so big that it's doing a lot to boost games sales across the U.S.

This information comes from Circana (formerly NPD Group), which publishes a monthly report on U.S. video game spending. According to analyst Mat Piscatella, spending on hardware, software, and accessories was up 10% in October compared to the same time last year, and the spike was "primarily" driven by the release of Black Ops 6. Non-mobile video game subscription service spending was also up by 16%.
