Fortnite challenge guide: Catch different kinds of fish to find a Valentine’s date for Fishstick

This week’s new Fortnite challenges are live, and they focus on a Valentine’s Day theme. Many of the challenges you’ll likely have issues with are cryptic and require you to visit locations to grab hidden items for the game’s various NPCs. We’ll be covering all the new challenges for the week, but the first one sends you on a quest to catch various types of fish to find a “Hearts Wild” date for a character named Fishstick.

It’ll all make sense as you complete more challenges, but essentially, the first step is to simply catch three different kinds of fish, which we’ll detail below. Since some of the challenge descriptions have a lot of weird terminology and often reference NPCs or places you might not be familiar with, it can be tricky to complete some of them.

The first thing we recommend is to boot up a Team Rumble match, since that game mode allows you to respawn after you die. It’s certainly possible to catch fish in other Battle Royale modes, but if you aren’t the most skilled player, or just want to have an easier time, you’ll want to go for this challenge in Team Rumble.

Either way, head to a location that contains fish and a fishing rod nearby. Typically, fishing rods are found close to bodies of water, so you should aim to grab one before you begin fishing. Any spot with water will do, but we typically like to land in the lesser-explored areas so we don’t run into other players looking to take us out. The water to the west of Lazy Lake is a good spot, as it has plenty of fishing holes, hopefully offering a variety of fish.

A dock nearby has a few different rods, so grab them and throw your line toward the schools of fish with R2 on PlayStation, RT on Xbox, or RZ on Nintendo Switch. Once you cast your line, wait a few seconds and your controller should vibrate, indicating you have a bite. Press the right trigger once more to reel in your catch. At this point, you’ll need to repeat the process two more times — but note that you must catch three different types of fish to complete the challenge. Keep fishing in this area and you’ll eventually earn credit for finishing the challenge, along with 20,000 XP for your troubles.

The best places to land in Fortnite (Chapter 6, Season 1)
Fortnite Chapter 6 key art

Survival is key in Fortnite, and it all starts by picking the best starting location. Even if you're a looper who's been around for each and every season, your likelihood of grabbing that coveted Victory Royale can be gone in a snap if you start off on the wrong foot -- whether it be on a mountain with no loot or a hot drop that could send you back to the lobby in no time.

As part of Fortnite Chapter 6, Season 1, a new Japanese-themed island has arrived with new points of interest (POIs) that change the game significantly. However, with these spots, which one is best comes down to your skill and preference. With that in mind, here are the best places to land in Fortnite for the OG sweats, beginners, and everyone in between.
The best places to land in Fortnite
Before jumping into the list, you must understand the basics of what makes a good landing spot. Sure, any location with decent loot and lots of chests might serve you well, but there's more to that. Is that spot often contested by other players in the lobby? Can you farm mats easily? Is it close to other POIs? Is it too far from the Storm Circle? These recommended landing spots all have their fair share of consistency and the best loot that you'll need. They also have some quirks that make them the best depending on your playstyle.

That means players can experience the original map and loot starting with Chapter 1, Season 1 from all the way back in 2017, when Fortnite was less of the pop culture metaverse juggernaut it is today.
