Forza Horizon 5 races onto PlayStation 5 this spring

Forza Horizon 5 is on its way to the PlayStation 5 sometime this spring, along with crossplay right out of the gate. Interested gamers can wishlist it starting today and will be notified when Forza Horizon 5 comes available. As an added bonus, Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios is releasing a free update called Horizon Realms for all platforms.

When it launches on PlayStation 5, Forza Horizon 5 players will have access to all existing content. That includes almost 900 different cars, two full expansions, over 40 game updates, and all of the wide-0pen roads to explore across Mexico’s countryside. Playground Games says more details about the Horizon Realms update will be released at a later date.

The PlayStation 5 version of the game was developed by Panic Button in collaboration with the two other studios. The team says its excited to welcome more Forza players and to watch the number of players grow as even more people are introduced to the franchise. Crossplay will be available upon release, but there’s no word on whether cross-progression is an option.

If the cold weather has you down and you need to race across hot asphalt to cheer yourself up, Forza Horizon 5 is currently available on Xbox Game Pass on a variety of different consoles and on PC. It’s also available through Xbox Play Anywhere.

It’s always somewhat surprising when a flagship title like Forza moves to another platform, but it’s not completely out of left field. Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, said last year that no Xbox game was completely off-limits for release elsewhere. The “This is an Xbox” campaign has blurred the lines on what exactly the brand represents, and its multi platform approach leaves Xbox’s future direction somewhat unclear.

Reports state that sales of Xbox consoles has declined, but Xbox Game Pass set a new quarterly record and grew its PC player base by 30%, according to Eurogamer. As more Xbox titles leave exclusivity deals and streaming becomes a more common way to play, the hardware requirements become less of an obstacle.

PlayStation might skip its standard summer showcase this year

Summer has always been the season of announcements for the latest and greatest in gaming, but Sony might skip its normal showcase in favor of a smaller State of Play. This would make it the second year in a row Sony has decided against a major show, as 2024 also saw a smaller conference than normal. The news comes from Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb fame, who says that a decision has not yet been made.

"Internally it sounds like they're debating, and flopping between, maybe making this summer a full showcase versus another State of Play. But they are considering a showcase," Grubb said. "And if they have a showcase, that means they'll have a lot of stuff to talk about. And at that point, you would definitely expect to see Wolverine and a lot of other games that could come out next year."

PlayStation surprised us earlier this week and a new State of Play showcase that highlighted a ton of upcoming PS5 games to look forward to, such as Metal Gear Solid: Delta and Onimusha: Way of the Sword. This month has no shortage of new games coming out to play, but if you don't have the time or money to get them all, PlayStation Plus has you covered. We picked out some gems from the catalog that might have gone under your radar at the time. Whether you want a deep RPG, fantastic party game, or hardcore multiplayer title, these are the games you should play this weekend.
The Outer Worlds

There's a good chance that Avowed will eventually make its way to PS5, but right now, there's no official word on that. What has been on PlayStation Plus for a while is the last major RPG from Obsidian, The Outer Worlds. Often compared to a Fallout in space, this is a more contained RPG experience where you explore several hub locations rather than a single open world. The entire game is a parody on corporations, capitalism, and class that hits way more than it misses. You are given a ton of different build options, and the companions are some of the best we've had the pleasure to meet. This isn't a huge game, but we do need to give you fair warning that it is leaving the service this month so you will need to commit to it if you want to finish it all. Even if you don't, it is worth a purchase to be ready for The Outer Worlds 2.
