Iomega Releases Portable Drive for Consoles

Since plenty of next-gen consoles end up connected to HDTV sets in a family’s main TV viewing area, they hold plenty of potential as home entertainment systems. But unless users can easily get content to them, there’s not a whole lot to show. Iomega attempted to solve this problem on Thursday with the release of the Media Xporter drive, an external USB drive tailored especially for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

While standard USB hard drives can be reformatted to work with either system, the Media Xporter saves users the hassle and the potential for hardware incompatibilities stemming from power usage, since it’s already been tested to work natively with both. Iomega also includes software tools for converting movie files that consoles won’t recognize, such as QuickTime, AVI and VOB files, into MPEG-4 files that they can play.

After filling the drive up with media from a computer, users can connect the drive to either console with a USB 2.0 “Y” cable to view photos, listen to music, and watch videos. “A game console can run an entire media library,” said Ralf San Jose, Iomega’s global product manager for HDD products, in a statement.

The Media Xporter drive is available immediately through Iomega for $113.95.

Life-sim game inZOI finally gets a release date, but it’s a delay to 2025
A woman built in the Inzoi character creator. She has short brown hair and big eyes looking off to the left.

The developers behind inZOI announced a 2025 early access release date on Thursday despite assurances that the hyper-realistic life sim would still launch sometime this year.

Game producer and director Hyungjun “Kjun” Kim posted an open letter to the community on the inZOI Discord saying that the game will be coming out on March 28, 2025, instead of in late 2024 so that the developers can give the game "the best possible start."

Stardew Valley 1.6 has finally arrived on consoles and mobile
Special Orders board in Stardew Valley.

Stardew Valley console and mobile players will want to start a new farm soon. The long-awaited 1.6 update is finally available for all platforms on Monday, bringing with it a new farm type, more dialogue with NPCs, new events, and too many other things to count.

The 1.6 update launched for PC players on March 19, so console and mobile players have been waiting almost eight months for the release. In July, developer Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that it was taking longer than expected. The following month, he wrote in another post that the ports have been the "primary focus" for the team. He had even stopped working on the Stardew follow-up Haunted Chocolatier to get the console and mobile updates finished.
