Is Final Fantasy 14 cross-platform?

In the world of MMORPGs, Final Fantasy XIV has risen to the top alongside (or perhaps even surpassing) World of Warcraft. Besides it being one of the best Final Fantasy games, one thing that sets it apart from most in the genre is the fact that it is on consoles as well as PC. For the first decade or so of its life, it was only on PlayStation and PC, but now Xbox players are also able to explore the world of Eorzea and beyond. MMOs are best played with friends, so one would hope it would have cross-platform support like Genshin Impact. Let’s party up and see if you can raid with your friends regardless of platform in Final Fantasy XIV.

Yes, Final Fantasy XIV was originally only cross-platform between PlayStation and PC players, but ever since the game came to Xbox, those players have also been entered into the fold. You’re free to meet, team up with, and experience the entire game with players on all platforms so long as you’re connected to the same server.

As far as cross-progression goes, Final Fantasy XIV handles things a little awkwardly. While your character and progress will be fully transferable between platforms, the game itself and any expansions you buy do not transfer. You can still use the same subscription, thankfully, but moving from platform to platform will require you to rebuy any extra content not currently available for free if you want to access it. However, we’re sure you’ve already heard that the critically acclaimed MMORPG has a free trial up to level 70.

Cross-platform support is becoming more important in the world of video games. Multiplayer hits like Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 and Fortnite have pushed crossplay into the limelight, and now most AAA multiplayer games release with at least partial cross-platform support. Finding every cross-platform game is no easy feat, though, so we did the hard work to bring you a comprehensive list of games that support crossplay.

Unfortunately, there aren't any rules when it comes to crossplay, so each game handles the feature a little differently. To make matters more confusing, certain backward-compatible games on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X still support crossplay on the most recent hardware, even if there isn't an official release for that hardware.

Final Fantasy XIV players are getting a temporary reprieve from a game inactivity policy that would get rid of player homes if they didn't log in enough due to Hurricane Helene, which hit the U.S. last week. Starting October 2, the popular MMO is suspending the requirement that players log on every 45 days, otherwise their estates get demolished.

This pertains to all players who connect to the Aether, Crystal, Dynamis, and Primal data centers -- which are all North American servers. If your house was already primed for demolition before the change, you can cancel it just by entering your home or doing work on your land.

Is Palworld cross-platform?
A person and two pals in Palworld.

Palworld, the creature-collecting survival game that fans have dubbed "Pokémon with guns," became a viral hit on launch day. With Pokémon being a Nintendo console-exclusive franchise (and one of the most successful video game franchises of all time), it's no surprise that gamers who stick to other platforms like Xbox, PlayStation, and PC are eager for the chance to capture and battle with oddball creatures in an open-world setting.

Being a survival game with a huge emphasis on co-op, much like Ark: Survival Evolved, one would hope Palworld would be a cross-platform game.
