Check out the launch trailer for the first episode of Telltale’s Game of Thrones series

Telltale Games’ Game of Thrones episodic adventure rolls out to its various platforms starting this week. To mark the occasion, the developer has shared a launch trailer for the first episode, called Iron from Ice, which are also the house words of the series’ protagonists, House Forrester. The episode goes out on December 2 for Mac, PlayStation 4 (in America), and Windows; December 3 for PlayStation 4 (in Europe), Xbox 360, and Xbox One; December 4 for iOS; December 9 for PlayStation 3; and a later, as-yet-unannounced date in December for Android.

The trailer provides more context than we have yet seen about the Forrester’s saga. Margaery Tyrell (voiced by series actor Natalie Dormer) pleads with Cersei Lannister on behalf of the Forresters, who fear for their safety if the Boltons are given control of the north, because of bad blood between the Forresters and some of the Bolton’s bannermen. Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) also offers a bit of pithy advice. The rest of the trailer features a growing sense of doom, a bit of swordplay, and a glimpse of creepy Ramsay Bolton doing what he does best: being creepy.

Just like we started doing with Telltale’s Tales from the Borderlands series that began recently, we will be writing up recaps for each episode as it comes out, saving a review until the entire season has wrapped. See you in Westeros!

A gun sits in a drawer in Signalis.

Grief can be unexplainable. I lost my grandfather a few years ago, and after his cremation, my family and I went back to his house and argued a bit about who would be sleeping in his bed. The bedroom was the same as before he passed, but there seemed to be a weird hole on the side of the bed where he used to sleep. It was like a shadow hovering just above the sheets. He was both there and not, and it was tough to put into words, even with others in the house.

Classic Telltale meets Dead Space in The Expanse: A Telltale Series
The Expanse Drummer looks at the camera

It wasn’t too much of a surprise to hear that developer Telltale was coming back with an episodic game based on SyFy and Amazon’s popular sci-fi series The Expanse. Before it was shut down and revived, Telltale made a name for itself on such licensed games. What was much more intriguing to me was that Deck Nine Games, the studio behind 2021’s excellent Life is Strange: True Colors, was handling the development of the project and that it was looking to expand the world of The Expanse by revealing the backstory of one of its most mysterious characters while expanding the gameplay possibilities that a Telltale-style narrative adventure game can provide.

That’s why I was excited to get a chance to play The Expanse: A Telltale Series early at an event and speak to Cara Gee, the actress behind the game’s main character Carmina Drummer, as well as its game director Stephan Frost. What I discovered was an experience that feels faithful to both classic narrative adventure games and The Expanse, while also feeling a bit like Dead Space.
Perfecting the Telltale formula
The Expanse is a hit television show based on a series of sci-fi books. While it’s not as popular as the likes of Star Wars or Star Trek, it has a passionate fanbase who adore its more realistic take on the physics and politics that would be more likely to play out if humanity ever managed to populate Mars and the Asteroid Belt. As the series progresses, it does learn harder and harder into the sci-fi elements with a powerful Protomolcule, aliens, and eventually Ring Gates that allow people to travel far around the galaxy.

MultiVersus Season 2 key art

MultiVersus season 2 has just begun, and Warner Bros. Games and Player First Games have announced a couple of new additions to the game: Marvin the Martian and a new stage based on Game of Thrones.

Marvin the Martian is the third Looney Tunes character to be added to the MultiVersus fighters roster after Bugs Bunny and Taz -- or fourth if you include LeBron James from Space Jam: A New Legacy. The polite alien will come with his trademark Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator explosive device, powerful blaster, and spaceship-summoning abilities. His full move set will be revealed at a later time.
