Feel like swinging your Wii remote madly around in the air while trying to defeat a yellow, spike-wearing snaggle-toothed monster? Then Nintendo really wants you to know that Mario Super Sluggers is now available for the Nintendo Wii. The game, rated E for “Everyone,” enables players to swing the Wii remote like a bat or use it to make pitches in a Mario baseball game that sees Mario, Luigi, Daisy, and other Mario characters take on Bowser for control of Baseball Island. The game offers single- and multi-player modes, and online baseball cards found on Internet Web sites unlocks features in the games like screensavers and special videos.
“Mario Super Sluggers has enough depth for core gamers but also offers controls that are instantly accessible to everyone,” said Nintendo America’s executive VP of sales and marketing Cammie Dunaway, in a statement. “Mario Super Sluggers takes the fun into extra innings with cool characters, baseball-themed challenges and different control options for novice and experienced gamers.”
In single player mode, players must defeat different characters with different baseball skills in order to persuade them to join the player’s team: different players have different special moves they can perform on the field, and some team members…well, don’t play well with others. The multiplayer mode supports up to four players, and offers a Toy Field mode where players compete in hitting and fielding.
Super Mario Sluggers is available now at a suggested retail price of $49.99.
