Namco Bandai channels its inner Tecmo and debuts the manga-inspired One Piece: Pirate Warrior

One Piece: Pirate Warrior is a game that feels like it was created when developers from Namco Bandai and Tecmo Koei were hanging out, and one of them dropped their chocolate in the other’s peanut butter. But the chocolate was the manga-turned-anime series One Piece, and the peanut butter was the hack and slash Dynasty Warriors series.

Due out sometime later this year, One Piece: Pirate Warrior will be a PlayStation 3 exclusive, available as a digital download. The game is based on the popular manga and anime about a group of Straw Hat Pirates led by Luffy, a young pirate searching for the gold of a the dead pirate king.

The gameplay will be pure Dynasty Warriors. You will face dozens of enemies at a time and utilize moves that can take out dozens of enemies with ease. Each of the several playable characters will feature their own special moves, and utilizing simple combos will be the key to victory.

One Piece has been called the world’s most popular manga, and the game will use a distinct manga-inspired art style that also borrows heavily from the animated series. The story will also take you through the world of One Piece, and fans will dig the inclusion of several of the characters that have come to life in the 65-book manga series.

No word on a release date, but expect it later this year.

Do your dailies

We'll get the most obvious tip out of the way first. Daily challenges are back and work just as they always have. Every 24 hours you will be given a handful of small optional tasks to complete for a heap of bonus XP. These can be things like getting Scorestreak kills, getting Point Blank Kills, and getting kills with a specific weapon type. Most daily challenges are worth 2,500 XP, which is already a nice bonus, but there is also a fourth one that can be worth between 3,000 and 5,000 additional XP. Each day you log on, you should prioritize your daily challenges.
