Use reasonable force unreasonably on May 7 in Not A Hero on PC

Not A Hero, the “2¼D” cover-based shooter from OlliOlli developer Roll7 and publisher Devolver Digital, comes to Windows on May 7, 2015. A release on PlayStation 4 and Vita will follow later on, in fall 2015.

You play as Steve, an assassin hired by an anthropomorphic rabbit from the future named BunnyLord to clean up the city — standard, boilerplate stuff, really. Steve and an ever-growing roster of not-heroes wreak havoc on the city’s criminal underworld with explosive gunplay that looks like a pixelated John Woo movie meets Blizzard’s SNES classic, Blackthorne.

Wildly running and gunning will get you quickly killed, so savvy players have to rely on environmental cover, leaping and rolling around to gain the advantage necessary for blowing away their enemies. Random secondary goals and mid-level events like unexpected SWAT teams keep you on your toes.

Not A Hero plays very little like Roll7’s 2D skater OlliOlli, but it stands out for its simple-but-deep control scheme and bombastic sense of fun. The May 7 Windows release is coming to Steam, GOG, and Humble. Fans at PAX East will be able to get their hands on the beta in March.

Loop Hero: Steam’s latest indie hit is a perfect game for multitaskers
Loop Hero

It's already been a surprising year for video game success stories. As gamers wade through a slow year for major game releases, out-of-left-field indies are dominating sales charts. Last month saw the release of Valheim, a survival game that’s been a persistent and mind-boggling success on Steam.

This past weekend brought another big indie hit that had gamers buzzing. Loop Hero, a new game published by Devolver Digital, debuted at number two on the Steam top sellers chart, just behind Valheim. The new game cleverly mashes up several genres to reinvent the wheel, not unlike last year’s Hades. Here’s what to know about the latest indie hit.
A strong gameplay loop
Loop Hero combines so many different genres that it can be a little overwhelming. At its most basic level, it's a "roguelite" where players walk around a looped path slaying enemies and collecting resources. The goal is to collect gear that can make the main character stronger and resources that can be brought back to camp. Eventually, players come face-to-face with the Lich King, a powerful creature that acts as a sort of final boss of each run. Like any roguelite, players start each new run fresh, with none of the gear collected from their previous run.

Assassin’s Creed Infinity has a new name and no microtransactions
Yasuke in Assassin's Creed Shadows fighting an enemy. He's dressed in his samurai armor.

Ubisoft quietly confirmed new details on Assassin's Creed Infinity, a hub that's set to launch alongside Assassin's Creed Shadows, on the franchise's official Reddit on Friday. It not only revealed that Animus Hub would be the official name, but that the rewards would be free.

The post was in response to a datamined leak (since taken down via DMCA request) that purportedly revealed a lot of information about the Animus Hub and how it would integrate with Assassin's Creed Shadows. Along with revealing the new name, we learned that the Animus Hub would include a battle pass with cosmetics that can be purchased with Isu Coins, the in-game currency. This led to people assuming that there would be microtransactions involved.
