NYT Strands today: hints, spangram and answers for Friday, September 6

Strands is a brand new daily puzzle from the New York Times. A trickier take on the classic word search, you’ll need a keen eye to solve this puzzle.

Like Wordle, Connections, and the Mini Crossword, Strands can be a bit difficult to solve some days. There’s no shame in needing a little help from time to time. If you’re stuck and need to know the answers to today’s Strands puzzle, check out the solved puzzle below.

How to play Strands

You start every Strands puzzle with the goal of finding the “theme words” hidden in the grid of letters. Manipulate letters by dragging or tapping to craft words; double-tap the final letter to confirm. If you find the correct word, the letters will be highlighted blue and will no longer be selectable.

If you find a word that isn’t a theme word, it still helps! For every three non-theme words you find that are at least four letters long, you’ll get a hint — the letters of one of the theme words will be revealed and you’ll just have to unscramble it.

Every single letter on the grid is used to spell out the theme words and there is no overlap. Every letter will be used once, and only once.

Each puzzle contains one “spangram,” a special theme word (or words) that describe the puzzle’s theme and touches two opposite sides of the board. When you find the spangram, it will be highlighted yellow.

The goal should be to complete the puzzle quickly without using too many hints.

Keychron’s cheap mechanical keyboard just got even cheaper
The Keychron C3 Pro gaming keyboard on a desk.

If you want to buy a mechanical keyboard while you're on a tight budget -- maybe you just spent most of your cash on gaming PC deals -- you should check out the Keychron C3 Pro gaming keyboard. It's already pretty affordable at its original price of $37, but it's currently even cheaper following Amazon's 32% discount that drops its price to only $25. This limited-time offer for $12 in savings isn't going to last long, so if you think this keyboard is the missing piece to your computer setup, you should complete your purchase for it immediately.

Why you should buy the Keychron C3 Pro gaming keyboard
The Keychron C3 Pro gaming keyboard doesn't provide the same premium experience as the Keychron Q1 HE, which is in our list of the best gaming keyboards as our top pick if you want Hall Effect switches, but it's an excellent mechanical keyboard considering its cheap price. It supports QMK/VIA software, which will allow you to program and remap each key quickly and easily for customized layouts, shortcuts, backlight effects, and more. The keyboard also features a gasket mount design that reduces sound resonance while increasing flexibility, for a quieter and smoother typing experience.

Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven puts a promising twist on turn-based RPGs
Man with long red hair putting crown on head of red haired teenage boy.

Despite the name, Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven is less about romance about more about legacy. This Square Enix remake of a non-linear 1993 RPG features an Inheritance system where protagonists eventually take the skills of another, growing stronger with each generation. It takes multiple lifetimes to take down the big bad, which might play out differently depending on who inherits the throne.

While I didn't get much time to get to know the characters themselves during a 30-minute demo at PAX West, the satisfying turn-based combat and signature Glimmer mechanic signal a strong showing for turn-based RPG fans.
Watch the throne
In Romancing SaGa 2, seven heroes who saved the world were sealed away into another dimension, fated to return to save humanity again. They eventually make a return, but they are corrupted by the alternate dimension and decide to take revenge on the world that abandoned them.

Get a close look at the Astro Bot special edition PS5 controller
The Astro bot DualSense sits in a pile of controllers.

Astro Bot is out today, and it's already poised to be one of the biggest games of the holiday season. If you're feeling Astro fever, you can grab a special edition DualSense controller inspired by the game. Is it worth shelling out for? We gave it a spin to find out. It might be if you're a fan, but know that it doesn't look exactly the way you may expect in person.

The Astro Bot PlayStation 5 controller is one of the more visually creative DualSenses you can buy. It doesn't just have a decal plastered on it or a special color. It's a bit more involved than that, with shiny blue stripes down its grips, some robotic detailing, and a big pair of eyes on the touch pad.
