Overwatch 2 is collaborating with Transformers, and it looks radical

Overwatch 2 x Transformers Collaboration Trailer | PS5 & PS4 Games

The long-awaited Transformers and Overwatch 2 collaboration is almost here. Blizzard Entertainment released a cinematic trailer on Monday teasing the crossover and introducing new skins.

The event is set to launch on July 9. Not much is known yet, but the trailer reveals four skins. Reinhardt fits right in with his red, white, and blue Optimus Prime skin, but we also get Bastion as Bumblebee, Illari as Arcee, and Ramattra as Megatron. The four do battle, showing off some classic Transformers moves, combined with their Overwatch playstyles. For example, Bastion turns into the Bumblebee vehicle with a cannon on the back, while Reinhardt uses his trademark hammer.

This spread also means each class gets at least one option if they’re interested in a skin. It’s a shame Blizzard didn’t have skins for other robots in the game like Zenyatta, but this is a good variety.

Of course, as with other Overwatch 2 collaborations, Blizzard will likely include a limited-time mode and other cosmetics. We’ll have to wait and see what the full event will look like, although since it is launching tomorrow, we’ll likely see it soon.

Blizzard has been teasing the crossover for a bit. In June, it announced Season 11 of Overwatch 2, called “Super Mega Ultrawatch,” which was packed with nostalgic features. Along with the Transformers, players also got some Power Rangers cosmetics to play around with. Then, Blizzard released an online comic that seems to imply that the Transformers are somewhat canon in the Overwatch universe.

Overwatch 2 has been all in on pop culture collaborations as of late, with Cowboy Bebop, Power Rangers, and One Punch Man being just a few examples over the past year and a half.

Alan Wake 2’s next DLC is dropping next week, and it looks horrifying

Alan Wake 2's second planned expansion is on the way, set to make the game more terrifying than ever. The Lake House DLC is dropping on October 22, bringing a new playable character and a new, but expected, setting if you played the base game.

Developer Remedy Entertainment showed off the first gameplay for The Lake House at the start of the October 2024 Xbox Partner Preview, and revealed a lot of details. First up, the DLC takes place in, well, the Lake House. This is a Federal Bureau of Control (FBC) research station set up on Cauldron Lake, the mysterious, ocean-like center of the Alan Wake series. We knew from Alan Wake 2 that something happened at the Lake House off-screen, leading to Agent Estevez teaming up with Saga Anderson and Alex Casey in the later half of the game. Lead writer Clay Murphy said in an Xbox Wire blog that by the time Saga and Estevez meet up in the game, "the story of this expansion has already occurred."

Blizzard book Play Nice reveals dozens of canceled games
A hunter crouches before footprints in Blizzard concept art.

As the company behind immensely popular games like World of Warcraft, Diablo IV, and Overwatch 2, Blizzard Entertainment has always been one of gaming's megapowers. Now, a new book delves into the company’s long and complicated history. Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment, is the latest book from Bloomberg's Jason Schreier. It begins at Blizzard’s creation, goes through its success with hits like Warcraft III, and culminates with its recent struggles, including feuds with parent company Activision, the 2021 sexual harassment lawsuit, and the impact of Microsoft’s 2023 acquisition of the company.

It's a fantastic read, and I highly recommend you pick a copy up for yourself. It gives great insight into what studios gain and lose when becoming one of the most popular companies in the video game industry. For fans of Blizzard, there are some especially juicy tidbits to learn, including a long list of canceled projects from the developer's long history. I've compiled every canceled project featured in the book, from StarCraft: Ghost to Odyssey, but you can learn much more about the projects and the context around them in Play Nice.
Denizen
Denizen is described as "a dungeon-crawler that was shelved due to lack of resources." Not much more is known about it.
Bloodlines
Bloodlines was a "space vampire" game in development at Blizzard. Play Nice reveals it was canceled because it "didn't resonate with enough staff to justify its existence."
