Nintendo’s beloved Pokémon trading card franchise has finally arrived on mobile devices, allowing players to open Booster Packs, create their own decks, and battle other players online. Similar to Pokémon Go, Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket has a Premium Pass that grants players exclusive items at the cost of a monthly price.

While it may sound enticing, the real question is if the Premium Pass for Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket is worth subscribing to. Nintendo has released some incredible Pokémon games throughout the decades, but we’ll inform you of whether purchasing the Pokémon TCGP Premium Pass is worth your money.

For the price of $10 a month, Pokémon TCGP players can unlock a few benefits, such as opening one additional pack a day and access to premium missions that can reward you with Premium Tickets to buy exclusive items. Not only that, but new subscribers get the first two weeks at no cost.

Non-subscribers are only allowed two free packs a day, so the Premium Pass allows you three a day. Also, you can check what kind of items you can unlock by completing these premium missions through the in-game Shop. Under the Limited Time/Events tab, you’ll see items like special cards with illustrations, as well as accessories for your decks like coins, playmats, and card sleeves.

Should you purchase the Pokémon TCGP Premium Pass?

Although choosing to buy subscription services is always a personal choice, the Pokémon TCGP Premium Pass can be worth it depending on how avid of a player you’re planning to be. If you’re addicted to Pokémon Go, adore the Pokémon video games, or collect physical Pokémon trading cards, this Premium Pass is worth trying out for the first two weeks that are free.

If you decide you don’t want to pay for the Premium Pass before the two weeks end, you can cancel your subscription without having to pay $10. Missing this date will charge you for the subscription, but after two weeks, you should figure out if you want to stick with the service or not.

Since the mobile game is new, the Premium Pass doesn’t have a ton to offer players once they’ve already purchased everything in the premium shop. But Nintendo will update the premium store often with new accessories and cards.

It’s not worth purchasing for the one extra Booster Pack a day since you’ll very often collect Pack Hourglasses just by completing missions. It’s only worth it for the premium missions, so take that into account before you subscribe. This game is a card collector’s dream, so if collecting all the exclusive cards is worth it in your eyes, then get it. The price can also vary depending on your country, so keep that in mind as well.

The studio behind Pokémon is making a brand new action-adventure game
A ronin stands alone in a forest in Project Bloom concept art.

Game Freak, the developer behind the popular Pokémon series, announced it is working on a new action-adventure game code-named Project Bloom. The game will be published by Private Division, a subsidiary of Take-Two that brought us games like The Outer Worlds, OlliOlli World, and Kerbal Space Program 2.

This is the first time Game Freak has partnered with a North American publisher during the development of one of its games. It has either self-published or worked with companies like Nintendo or Sega in the past. On Private Division's end, this is simply the latest in a long string of publishing deals made with developers like Ori and Blind Forest's Moon Studios and Silent Hill 2 remake's Bloober Team.

Pokémon Violet and Scarlet are the series’ best bird-watching games
A Pokemon trainer takes a selfie with an Ostrich Pokemon on Pokemon Scarlet.

Pokémon Violet and Scarlet are currently the talk of the gaming world, though that conversation is mostly about the bizarre slew of technical issues. While those are understandably the focus, they shouldn't totally paper over one of the best aspects of the games: They've got a lot of good birds.

Yes, Pokémon's ninth generation feels as though it's been specifically built with bird-watchers in mind. While previous games in the series tend to have one all-star flying evolution line and a smattering of winged friends hanging out in the world, Paldea might be Pokémon's most avian friendly region yet.
