PowerColor PCS HD4850 Packs 2 GB

Taiwan’s TUL Corporation has announced its new PowerColor PCS HD4850 2GB graphics card, which claims to be the first graphics controller on the market to offer two gigabytes of dedicated video memory. TUL launched the HD4850 series back in June—512 MB and 1 GB versions are also available—and decided to push the line forward to 2 GB based on customer feedback.

TUL manufactures AMD graphics cards, and the HD4850 is based on the RV770 chip and sports 800 stream processors and up to 57.6 GB/s of memory bandwidth. The PCS HD4850 also features a unique fan technology that adjusts fan speed on the fly to adapt to ambient temperature. Dubbed the Professional Cooling System—hence the PCS in the card’s name—TUL says the result is that the the HD4850 runs about 10°C cooler.

The HD4850 2G is a PCI Express 2.0 card that supports DirectX 10.1, ATI’s CrossFireX technology, and offers HDMI and 7.1 audio output. TUL hasn’t released any pricing or availability information, but ambitious gamers should be able to find it soon from the usual suspects…er, sources.
