I wasn’t expecting Mario & Luigi: Brothership to surprise me as much as it did

I’m not sure what’s harder to believe: The fact that there hasn’t been a new Mario & Luigi game in nearly a decade or that the series has never had a full console game. Regardless of which fact you find more shocking, Mario & Luigi: Brothership is kind of a big deal. It’s not just a grand return for a beloved RPG series that was on the verge of losing its way, but also a chance for Nintendo to prove that it’s not just a handheld experience. I wouldn’t call it a make-or-break moment, but it’s still the kind of game that’s important to get right.

Thankfully, Nintendo seems to be taking that task very seriously. During a preview event, I played over an hour of Brothership. That snippet would reintroduce me to familiar timing-based combat and some fresh animations that are giving the series a modern cartoon overhaul. But Brothership isn’t just an old Mushroom Kingdom adventure with a new look; it comes with an ingenious new combat system that could redefine the series on its maiden console voyage.

Sunderfolk finds the middle ground between Jackbox and Dungeons & Dragons

When I hang out with my friends for a game night, we usually do one of two things: play Dungeons & Dragons or a party video game that works with just our phones. The iconic tabletop RPG provides the sandbox for an infinite number of campaigns for my friends to venture through, while Jackbox and King Of The Castle offer variety depending on the actions or answers we provide as players. Sunderfolk is a new game from Dreamhaven that’s finding the middle ground between the two.

Blizzard Entertainment founder Mike Morhaime and others from the World of Warcraft studio founded Dreamhaven in 2020, and it’s finally ramping up to release games such as Lynked: Banner of the Spark and Sunderfolk. Sunderfolk specifically is a card-based tactical RPG set in a fantasy world where animals fight to defend the underground village of Arden from a variety of fantastical threats. The twist is that each player controls their character and cards played from a dedicated phone app that connects to Sunderfolk on PC and console.

Football Manager 25 delayed a week after release date was announced

Highly anticipated sports sim Football Manager 25 has been delayed out of November and into next year, the developer announced Thursday.

In a lengthy statement published to X (formerly Twitter) and its website, development studio Sports Interactive said the team needed more time to ensure it was up to certain standards, and that it's targeting a March 2025 release window. While not specified, this seems to pertain to all versions of the game, including Football Manager 25 Touch on Nintendo Switch and the mobile version.
