PS3 Sales Closing in on Nintendo Wii

PS3 Sales Closing in on Nintendo Wii

It appears that Sony’s struggling PlayStation 3 console may finally be making some ground on its competitors. After a sluggish start and a summer that saw the system being outsold five-to-one by the Nintendo Wii in Japan, the latest figures show that the feeble console may finally be catching up.

According to Reuters, the Wii sold 110,415 units in Japan during October, while Sony managed to push 47,183 units out the door. Though those figures still indicate a lead of over two-to-one, the gap, compared to where it used to be, is closing.

Unfortunately for Sony, the company may be losing ground elswhere: in game sales. According to estimates from iSuppli, Nintendo snatched the lead away from Sony in total game sales during the third quarter. The company’s estimates show third-quarter results of $1.0 billion for Sony on all of its gaming platforms,  and $1.24 billion for Nintendo.

Recently, Sony announced a cheaper $399 version of the PS3 in North America in preparation for the holiday season, while Nintendo insisted that the Wii’s $249 price tag would remain untouched.

The PS5 is finally on sale for Prime Big Deal Days. Now’s the right time to buy it

Despite the fact that we're four years into this current console generation, PS5 discounts have been as slim as its recent redesign. You'll hardly ever find Sony's console for less than its launch day price. Even when the PS5 Pro was announced, Sony opted to keep the base model's price the same. That's finally changed. As part of Amazon's Prime Big Deals Day, the PS5 Digital Edition just got a big price cut. Regularly $450, it's on sale for $400 through most major retailers, but has been bouncing a bit lower (it's currently $395 at the time of writing).

You may be wondering if this is the right moment to buy a PS5. After all, its $700 Pro model is slated to launch next month. I'd argue that this is the exact moment to buy a base model, though.

Players in Japan can finally check out Palworld on PlayStation 5 after around a week and a half after it became available elsewhere.

The official Palworld X (formerly Twitter) account announced Friday that the open-world survival game is now available on the console in Japan. This is despite the fact that developer Pocketpair has been sued by Nintendo in a Tokyo court for patent infringement.
