Rockstar Social Club Logs Gaming Milestones

Rockstar Social Club Logs Gaming Milestones

With the much-anticipated April 29 release of Grand Theft Auto IV just over the horizon now, developer Rockstar has taken the step of unveiling a companion site for the game. Rockstar Social Club will act as an online leader board for players tearing through Rockstar games (GTA IV  being the first one supported), letting them compete to be the fiercest, fastest, and most famous.

In GTA IV, features will include an LCPD Police Blotter logging criminal activity and plotting crime stats, the Story Gang for keeping track of who has completed the single-player story arc, and the Liberty City Marathon to recognize miles walked, driven and swam, along with other stats like bullets fired and stunts-jumps jumped.

The 100% Club will recognize those dedicated souls who have uncovered everything there is to uncover in the game. A special contest upon launch will give the first 10 maniacs to complete the 100% milestone a physical “key to the city” as a prize.

Registration for the site will open on April 15, two weeks before GTA IV launches. Players will need either an Xbox Gamertag of PlayStation Network ID to sign up.

Rockstar Games hacker reportedly arrested following GTA 6 leak
Lester plans a heist in GTA V key art.

Last weekend, someone hacked Rockstar Games and leaked over 90 videos of the still-in-development Grand Theft Auto 6. Now, the City of London Police in the United Kingdom reportedly arrested the 17-year-old individual responsible for the hack.

BBC and the City of London Police's Twitter account confirmed the arrest took place in Oxfordshire earlier today. The official statement only says that this 17-year-old individual was arrested "on suspicion of hacking, as part of an investigation supported by the NCA UK's National Cyber Crime Unit," but journalist Matthew Keys reports that this is the person who leaked Grand Theft Auto 6 after they hacked Rockstar Games (and possibly hacked Uber as well).

Why players want game studios to take strong social stances
Playstation CEO and president, Jim Ryan, stands in front of a blue wall with Playstation button symbols illuminated.

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court's majority draft opinion detailing its vote to overturn Roe v. Wade leaked out to the press, setting the stage for possible erosion of abortion protection in the United States.

Some video game companies spoke out against the draft opinion, like Bungie, which voiced support for its employees' reproductive rights in a blog post two days after the leak. Others fell silent on the issue -- or stood neutral. In that latter camp sits PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan who, according to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, sent an internal email on May 12 urging employees to "respect differences of opinion" on the abortion rights debate regarding Roe v. Wade. The email veered off-topic to talk about his two cats' first birthday and his desire to get a dog.
