Sony PlayStation Store Opens to PCs

Sony PlayStation Store Opens to PCs

No PS3? No problem. Sony’s online PlayStation store, which could previously only use the PlayStation 3 as a conduit to buy PSP content, dropped its exclusivity on Tuesday by opening up to PC users.

PSP users can now download games using PCs directly from the Web instead of buying them in retail stores. Some games, such as Syphon Filter: Combat Ops are actually exclusive to the online store. Classic PS One games are also available for the PSP, priced at $5.99.

In order to make use of the store, PSP owners will need to update their firmware to version 3.72 and download Sony’s PlayStation Network Downloader. Rather than using MemorySticks to transfer content, as was standard for the PS3, PC users can connect their PSPs through a USB cable and push content directly to it.

A PS5 DualSense controller.

It sounds like we're going to learn more about a next-generation PlayStation sooner rather than later.

In early 2024, Sony Senior Vice President Naomi Matsuoka told Bloomberg the following: "Looking ahead, PS5 will enter the latter stage of its life cycle." While she didn't outright say that a PlayStation 6 is in the works, we can assume that the company is already looking ahead at its next console.
