The second episode Tales from the Borderlands, Telltale Games and Gearbox Software’s episodic adventure set in the world of Borderlands, arrives the week of March 17, as was revealed during Gearbox’s PAX East 2015 panel.

The episode, titled Atlas Mugged, picks up where we left our antiheroes Rhys and Fiona, hunting down a vault on Pandora. Borderlands mainstay Handsome Jack features more prominently in the events of episode two. Also, just as the ninja Zer0 from Borderlands 2 made an appearance in the previous episode, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel‘s shield-wielding Athena shows up in Atlas, according to the new teaser trailer.

Tales from the Borderlands fuses Telltale’s story-driven gameplay with the humorous characters and world-building of Gearbox’s Borderlands franchise. Rhys, a low-level Hyperion employee, finds himself in a tentative partnership with Fiona, a hustler from the Pandoran surface. Together they are on a quest to make their fortune by finding one of Pandora’s famous vaults.

When I sat down to try a demo of it ahead of The Game Awards last week, I was greeted by a satirical introduction as a corporate orientation video cheerfully explained that I was an employee on a dangerous mission. As it played, the developer showing me the demo made a crack about Google. I didn’t really understand why, so I laughed and moved on.

It wasn’t until a few minutes later that a long-forgotten thought came back to me. In 2019, Google acquired Typhoon Studios. They were folded into what was supposed to be Google’s first-party game studio, Stadia Games and Entertainment. Two years later, the entire project was shut down and Typhoon Games was spat back out. It formed Racoon Logic later that year, putting the team back to where it started as an indie team.
