Before Treyarch was constantly jockeying for the title of “Best Call of Duty” developer with Infinity Ward it was off making a name for itself with the pre-Shattered Dimensions video games based on the Marvel Comics superhero, Spider-Man. Beenox has since taken over the franchise, with last year’s Shattered followed by Spider-Man: Edge of Time, which hit stores at the beginning of this month. The developer will be handling next year’s game as well, which we learned last week in a pre-New York Comic Con leak will be connected in some way with Marc Webb’s 2012 film reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man.
The ‘Con is now over and more details have emerged, compliments of Beenox team member Gerard Lehainy and Activision‘s Doug Heder (via One of Swords). A trailer premiered at the show offering fans their first glimpse at an early version of the game, which looks to be returning to the open-world format that Treyarch had so much success with. Lehainy and Heder confirmed as much at Saturday’s Marvel panel,
They also revealed that the upcoming game will pick up after the events of the movie, which probably also means we won’t be seeing it arrive until after Amazing hits theaters in June. No telling how long after, but summer or holiday both seem like even money possibilities. Very few details beyond that were revealed, but maybe it’s time for another open-world Spidey game.
