Britain might not often win at sports these days, but a British team has taken home the top prize at the second year of the Championship Gaming Series (CGS) in Los Angeles, taking home the Mountain Dew trophy and the $500,000 check that goes a long with it.
The Birmingham Salvo also had the two most valuable players of the tournament, Dean "Picaso" Sutton and David "Daveyskills" Kelly, the BBC reports.
It all began back in March, when players competed to win places on a CGS team. Those who succeeded were given contracts and monthly salaries as they took part in competitions. From an initial 18 teams the number was whittled down to the eight who took part in the grand final.
Four games were involved – Fifa 08, Forza Motorsport 2, Source: Dead or Alive 4, and Counter Strike.
Birmingham Salvo dominated the finals, losing only one round (women’s Dead or Alive 4) to the San Francisco Optx, who came second and picked up $150,000. The overall score across all rounds was 22-15.
