Indie hit Vampire Survivors is expanding with a new mode called Adventures. Coming soon to all platforms, the addition will bring a mini-story mode that will be free to all players.

Vampire Survivors was a breakout hit in 2022, earning several awards for its minimalistic action gameplay that’s already inspired a new genre. Since then, developer Poncle has continued to support the game with new content. Adventures might be its most ambitious update yet, adding an entirely new mode.

Coming Soon - Adventures Update - Vampire Survivors

In an FAQ, Poncle describes Adventures as a mini-story mode where players control specific characters through missions that have their own objectives and win conditions. The gameplay seems to be the same as a normal round of Vampire Survivors, but with custom rules in each mission, lore, and unique progression hooks. It’ll also feature an ascension system, which will add more rewards on subsequent playthroughs. All story missions are playable in co-op.

Adventures is set to launch on Steam, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android soon and will be a free update. Poncle notes that a few Adventure missions are tied to the base game’s DLCs, so players will need to pick those up if they want to play them all. The mode will launch with two free missions and one DLC adventure.

Of course, the most pressing question is whether or not the update will feature vampires, which do not appear in the game despite its titles. Poncle confirms how many you can expect to see in Adventures: “At least as many as in the main game, if not more.”

Apple Arcade is about to get two big mobile games
Apple Arcade characters stand on a chess board.

Apple Arcade is always adding some unique games to its catalog, and July is no different, with two big mobile titles, a Vision Pro game, and a bunch of updates coming soon.

Apple Arcade's newest original title is Temple Run: Legends, the first level-based game in the long-time runner franchise, which is hitting the service on August 1. Typically, games in the series have infinite levels, so you just have to go as far as you can before a game over. Legends, on the other hand, has over 500 levels, so players have a more concrete way to track progression. Apple's blog post on the announcement also says that it'll feature new gameplay modes and new characters. And if you want to play classic Temple Run, there's still an infinite run mode.

SteamWorld Heist 2 makes an underappreciated classic even better
A robot shoot a big mech boss in Steamworld Heist 2.

Back in 2015, developer Image & Form was thriving in the Nintendo 3DS era. Its game SteamWorld Dig had a breakthrough moment two years before, bringing new fans to its unique steampunk world. Rather than following that up with a quick and easy sequel, it would veer into left field with SteamWorld Heist. It wasn't another Dig Dug-like platformer, but a turn-based strategy game that played more like Worms. Though it may not be as popular as SteamWorld Dig and its sequel, it's a hidden gem that's been begging for a sequel.

That'll happen on August 8 with SteamWorld Heist 2. The sequel builds on the original's winning formula, while taking it to new heights. I got a sense of just how much bigger it is when sitting down for a demo at Summer Game Fest earlier this month. Imagine the jump in scope between the first two SteamWorld Dig games, and that's what you can expect from SteamWorld Heist 2.
