One of our favorite games of E3 will soon be playable by you. THQ has announced that a two-level Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine demo will be released for the Xbox 360 and Windows PC on August 23, followed by a PS3 demo on August 24. Those who have already preordered the game on Steam will get the demo on August 18, a few days early. The Steam promotion will correspond to a game discount on the service. Finally, those in the Space Marine ‘Honour Guard’ community will get the demo a day early, on August 22.
“The Space Marine demo features two very different areas of the game,” writes THQ. “The first pits the player against an Ork horde outside the gates of a munitions factory. Armed with six devastating weapons, including the iconic bolter and lethal chainsword, the player will get to experience Space Marine’s seamless mix of melee and ranged combat first hand as they take on the rampaging invaders. The second area gives players a taste of the exhilarating Jump Pack sequences where the game’s hero—Captain Titus—takes to the skies to rain death from above.”
Our impressions of the game at E3 were overwhelmingly positive. It’s a game that grows on you, borrowing a bit from the Gears of War series (which, we’ve learned, borrowed from Warhammer first), but adds more melee and moves at a faster pace. Space Marine hits digital and retail shelves on Sept. 6.
