In Zelda lore, the Temple of Time is often the home of the fabled Master Sword. The structure is best known for its appearance in Ocarina of Time, where it was integral to the process of the protagonist moving back and forward through time.
However, the Temple of Time that’s set to be featured in Breath of the Wild is quite different to the one that players visited in Ocarina of Time, even though its architectural design is quite similar. In terms of geographical placement, it’s no longer situated in the midst of Hyrule Castle and the town that neighbors it.
It’s also fair to say that the Temple of Time that’s featured in Breath of the Wild is somewhat worse for wear. Large parts of its roof are missing, and there’s major structural damage to its facade and two of its four walls.
At this point, we don’t know exactly what function the Temple of Time will perform in Breath of the Wild. However, given the fact that it’s being shown off ahead of release, it’s likely that the structure will have a meaningful presence in the game — it wouldn’t be too surprising if players once again found the Master Sword inside the building.
Nintendo is ramping up its promotional efforts for the new Zelda title, but the company is still being relatively coy about when it will be released. We know that Breath of the Wild is scheduled to launch in 2017, but no specific date has been given.
