The new AirTV wirelessly beams broadcast channels to your streaming device

It was only a few weeks ago that we reviewed the AirTV Player, which aimed to integrate the features you would normally find in a streaming box like the Roku, Apple TV, or Amazon Fire TV with the ability to pull in over-the-air (OTA) broadcast channels. That turned out to be a problem, as it was trying to do much in a way that left us wanting more. The plainly named AirTV, on the other hand, focuses on doing just one thing, and it may end up being a better product for it.

While the AirTV Player was an all-in-one unit that functioned as a streaming box — ostensibly your main streaming box — the AirTV is more of an accessory. Plug an OTA antenna into the device, hook it up to your Wi-Fi, and it wirelessly streams OTA channels to various streaming boxes throughout your house. Not only does this let you use the streaming box you’re used to, but it also lets you put the antenna where it gets the best reception, not wherever your TV happens to be.

“Customers can mount their antenna connected to AirTV wherever the signal is strongest, whether it’s tucked away in an attic or hidden behind the living room TV,” AirTV director of product development Mitch Weinraub said in a statement. “AirTV wirelessly streams to AirTV-enabled devices visible to a home Wi-Fi network, so there’s no longer a need to run cables across the home to get OTA signals.”

Unfortunately, AirTV doesn’t support every streaming box out there. Apple TV users, for example, are out of luck. While apps may arrive on other platforms in the future, right now only Roku and Amazon Fire TV devices are supported for your TV, while iOS and Android apps let you watch local programming on your mobile device.

AirTV is heavily integrated with Sling TV, which is a plus if you already use that service. If you don’t, a separate AirTV app is available, which is your best option if you prefer another live TV streaming service. For instructions on how to set up the AirTV, see the company’s website.

Does Sling TV have ABC?

Sling TV might not be as well known as the most popular streaming services out there, but it does deliver quality programming. Along with its VOD library, it's one of the least expensive options for streaming live TV. However, Sling TV can be a bit tricky to figure out at time. One of those times happens to be figuring out what local channels you can access with Sling TV.

Sling TV operates a bit differently than most other streaming services, delivering two tracks of channels that you can access. You can opt into either Sling Orange, or Sling Blue ... although what it really wants you to do is bundle the two together. The problem is that bundling won't help if you're trying to figure out what local channels you have access to. Like, whether Sling TV has ABC.

How many devices can you watch Sling TV on at once?

Sling TV delivers a great streaming experience, with both on-demand and live streaming, making it easy for everyone in the house to find something to watch. However, if everyone in the house is trying to stream on Sling TV at the same time, you're going to run into problems.

Sling TV operates a bit differently than many popular streaming services. It has the option of two base plans to choose from, Sling Orange and Sling Blue. They have fewer channels (separately and combined) than you’d find on other options, but they also cost less. You then couple them with add-ons (called “Extras” in Sling world) to fill out your plan. And the number of devices on which you can simultaneously watch Sling TV depends on how you put your plan together. Here’s how it breaks down.
Sling Orange
This one’s limited to just a single device at a time. And that includes any Extras you add to your service. There are half a dozen channels in Sling Orange that are not included in Sling Blue. Those channels are limited to a single device, even if you have the Sling Orange and Blue plans bundled together.
Sling Blue
This base plan gets you access to three streams at once. (You also get three streams if you subscribe to Sling Latino or Sling International.) Any Extras you add will be included in those three streams.
Sling Orange and Sling Blue
Subscribing to both tracks increases the number of devices on which you can watch Sling TV to four. But that really means that you get the three streams from Sling Blue, and the single stream from Sling Orange. Orange channels are still limited to one device and Blue channels are limited to three devices.

The Canucks at Kanto Audio are at it again, announcing the addition of another new set of powered speakers to its lineup. The Kanto Ren are a 100-watt pair of active speakers that, in a first for the company, offer HDMI ARC connectivity.

After unleashing its new Ora Desktop reference speakers a few months back and then announcing their cousin, the Ora4, at CES 2024 last month, the Canadian speaker maker has set its sights on TV connectivity with the Ren, a $600 set of compact powered speakers that can be connected to your TV with HDMI ARC and be controlled with an included remote or with your TV's remote, with the help of CEC. The new connectivity makes the Kanto REN an intriguing soundbar alternative.
