JBL’s futuristic On Air Wireless AirpPlay speaker dock isn’t available yet…but that isn’t stopping the audio gear maker from teasing iPad, iPhone, and Macintosh fans with a little bit of a preview. Designed to work with iTunes 10.1 or later along with iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches running iOS 4.2 or later, the circular speaker dock system is compatible with Apple’s AirPlay technology, so users can stream their music to the system wirelessly without having to worry about dealing with cables or separate remotes for the speaker system. Just select tracks or playlists from your iTunes library send them to the speaker dock, and you’re done.
The JBL On Air Wireless AirPlay speaker dock features a hoop-like design along with a display that pulls up album art along with song and artist information. The system features decided transport controls as well as JBL’s 360-degree Halo acoustics system that the company says enhances stereo imaging and offers high-quality, uniform sound over a wide area. Of course, for folks who are into more traditional iPod dock functionality, the system also offers two alarms, an FM receiver (10 presets), and a USB port for firmware updates. Oh, and, yes, it will even dock and charge an iPod or iPhone with universal dock connector.
How much will all this cost? JBL isn’t saying…nor is it saying when customers will be able to get their hands on it. But the company is encouraging users to sign up to be notified when the dock finally becomes available.
