JVC Puts iPod Docks in LCD TVs

Amongst the products JVC is unveiling this year at the Consumer Electronics Show, the company is hoping to prove two great tastes taste great together by marrying two staples of high-tech life: the LCD TV and the iPod. The new JVC P-series LCD televisions will come in sizes ranging from 32- to 52-inches, and feature an integrated iPod dock that enables users to route video or audio playback from the iPod right through the TV.

The 32-inch model will support 768p resolution, while the remaining 42-, 47-, and 52-inch models will all offer 1080p resolution. When docked, the television remote can be used to control the iPod, and offers a circular controller that mimic the famous iPod click wheel. In addition to music and video, users can display photos stored on their iPods using their big-screen TVs, and (of course) the iPods will charge while docked with the television.

In addition to iPod connectivity, the televisions sport three HDMI inputs, one S-Video inputs, S/PDIF and analog audio output, and a 10W-per-channel stereo speaker system. There’s also a side-accessible USB photo viewer.

JVC says it will ship the 42-inch model on March 2, with the 768p 32-inch model following that same month. The 47-inch will hit retailers in April, with the 52-inch giant scheduled for “summer 2008.” Sadly, JVC hasn’t released any pricing information yet.

This touchscreen AirPods case is the worst thing I’ve seen all week
Apple AirPods Pro 2 sitting beside iPhone 14 and charging case.

If you know me even the slightest bit, you’ll know that I’m a big Apple fan. I have an iPad, Apple Watch, and multiple Macs. And even though I’ve been diving into the world of Android phones, my primary device is still an iPhone 14 Pro. I also always have my AirPods Pro 2 with me, whether that’s at home or when I’m out at Disney parks — they're always on me in some way or another.

But as much as I like Apple, there are certainly some things that will make me scratch my head and go “Huh?” The latest one is what appears to be a new patent held by Apple that could lead to an AirPods case with an integrated interactive touchscreen.
The patent does what now?

I saw Sony’s 2023 TVs, and I think this model might be the best TV of the year
Sony X90L

After a rather conspicuous no-show at CES 2023, Sony TVs are finally here. Was it worth the wait? Absolutely. There are a few changes and a few surprises, so let’s get into it.

The OLEDs

Sony Bravia XR A95L QD-OLED TV
I recently flew to New York to get my eyes on three of Sony’s new models in person, and I’ll dive deeper into those further down. But first I want to give an overview of the whole lineup. Starting at the very top, we have the A95L QD-OLED TV. This replaces the A95K from 2022 — and yes, it uses Samsung Display’s newer, more efficient QD-OLED panel with higher brightness capability. I could not measure the TV, and Sony never talks metrics — like, ever — but I do have some brightness comments coming later in this article.

I went hands-on with Samsung’s two best new QLED TVs, and one of them stunned me
Samsung N900C 8K Neo QLED

I recently flew to New Jersey to go hands-on with Samsung’s top three 2023 TVs. I measured. I viewed. In the end, one of them floored me.

During my one-day visit, I was able to get hands-on with the 65-inch Samsung QN95C Neo QLED, a 75-inch Samsung QN900C 8K Neo QLED, and the much anticipated 77-inch Samsung S95C OLED — aka QD-OLED TV.
