Samsung Debuts Two New Ergonomic Camcorders

Samsung has brought the "Touch of Color" (ToC) design motif from its flat-screen HDTVs to its camcorder line, with its new "ergonomic" SMX-C14 and SMX-C10. The new camcorders feature 10× optical zoom, hyper image stabilization, a swivel-out 2.7-inch LCD display, and Samsung’s Active Angle lens. The camcorder is also designed to be held in a more relaxed manner that reduced stress on a user’s wrist and elbow while keeping the LCD screen out of the user’s direct line of sight, making it easier to keep an eye on a subject.

"The SMX-C14 and SMX-C10 are truly unique camcorders, starting with their eye-catching ToC design," said Samsung Electronics America’s senior VP of a/v and digital imaging marketing Reid Sullivan, in a statement. "In addition to being ultra-compact, ergonomic, and stylish, these camcorders offer a host of advanced, yet easy-to-use capabilities that encourage consumers to integrate video recording into their everyday digital lifestyles."

Although Samsung hasn’t published full specs for the new camcorder, but the C10 will record directly to SD/SDHC media, while the C14 will boast 16GB of internal memory in addition to an SD/SDHC card slot. Both cameras will also feature time-lapse recording and animated video thumbnails, along with a charging system that will enable users to recharge the batter via an adapter or USB. The units will also both feature Samsung’s intelli-studio editing feature: users will be able to connect the camcorders to a PC or notebook using USB, and edit or play their video without any additional software. Each camcorder will also feature a one-touch upload button for pushing video directly to YouTube.

Samsung expects the camcorders will be available from retailers in July; no pricing has been announced.

Samsung’s new 98-inch DU9000 4K TV is just $4,000. Can it beat TCL and Hisense?
Samsung 98-inch DU9000 4K TV.

Samsung's new 98-inch DU9000 Crystal UHD 4K TV is here and it's priced at $4,000, making it the company's most affordable 98-inch TV so far. Until now, if you wanted a Samsung TV in a massive, 98-inch screen size, you'd be looking at a starting price of $8,000 for the 98-inch QLED Q80C 4K TV. You can order the 98-inch DU9000 starting April 15, at samsung.com.

As 4K TVs get bigger, so does the size of the individual pixels, which can decrease perceived sharpness. Samsung says that the DU9000 is equipped with its Supersize Picture Enhancer, a technology that tries to compensate for this tendency.

A QD-OLED display at Samsung Display's CES 2024 booth.

CES 2024 has been dominated by TV manufacturers touting massive increases in brightness. You can count Samsung among them, but with a slight twist -- the giant electronics firm says its latest QD-OLED TV panels aren't just bright, they're also color-accurate, and it says it has the receipts to prove it.

Specifically, we're talking about Samsung Display -- the Samsung subsidiary that designs and fabricates the displays that eventually get integrated into TVs you can buy from companies like Samsung Electronics and Sony (yes, Sony's QD-OLED TVs use Samsung Display panels).

It's a picture frame. It's a speaker. It's the Samsung Music Frame. Phil Nickinson / Digital Trends

Along with its new TVs, ultra short throw laser projectors, and soundbars -- most of which were totally predictable enhancements of existing products -- Samsung brought something truly different to CES 2024: the Samsung Music Frame, a Dolby Atmos-capable wireless speaker that doubles as an old-fashioned printed photo frame.
