Sanyo Intros PLV-Z700 1080p Projector

Sanyo Intros PLV-Z700 1080p Projector

Next week at the IFA 2008 show in Berlin, Sanyo will be demonstrating its new “entry-level” PLV-Z700 1080p projector. Although Sanyo is more known for its business projectors, the Z700 represents a foray into residential installations, letting users throw high-definition content across the room…and with lens-shifting technology and a 10,000:1 contrast ratio, that content might look pretty good.

“Our entry-level Full HD projector addresses the increased interest in projection systems for home-based entertainment systems due to the rapid growth of high resolution material, from Blu-ray discs, HD game consoles, and digital camcorders,” says Sanyo presentation technologies VP and general manager Mark Holt, in a statement. “Sanyo recognizes this trend toward affordable higher quality video and the PLV-Z700 is capable of projecting large, beautiful images anywhere and now for more Americans.”

The Z700 offers Sanyo’s 3D color management system designed to handle Deep Color information. The projector sports two HDMI 1.3 inputs, an electronic shutter to keep the lens clean, a quiet 21db fan, and five video modes to make sure games, cinema, and other content looks its best. The Z700 also sports a 2× zoom for long or short focus throws.

By “entry level,” Sanyo means the PLV-Z700 will be priced at $1,995 when it hits retailers in October.

The Samsung S90C is the best OLED for the price right now
Samsung S90C

This time of year, the amount of news proclaiming the "best deal ever"or, yes, I'll throw myself in there with "best OLED TV to buy right now," can be a bit overwhelming. But it would be a disservice to not highlight the incredible pricing on the Samsung S90C. I've been living with the S90C for the better part of 2024, and even at it's regular sale price, it's worth it. It's one of my first recommendations to anyone that asks what TV to get. The fact that you can now get a 65-inch OLED for $1,000 is ridiculous.

When the Samsung S90C was originally released, it was in direct competition with the LG C3, the dominant OLED TV series. Year in and year out, the LG C Series was the sensible -- and really only -- midrange OLED worth talking about. But then QD-OLED came along and LG suddenly had strong competition that could match its black level performance. While their pricing was on par at release, right now the LG C3 is still a few hundred dollars more than the S90C. For even more context, the Hisense U8N, one of our favorite midrange LED TVs, is only $100 less. That Hisense might be brighter than the Samsung, but the S90C beats it in all other ways.
