We’re not sure what kind of application demands a projector that stays on 24 hours a day for weeks on end, but if you’re looking for long-term retina-scorching potential, Sanyo has the projector for you. On Tuesday, the company unveiled its PLC-XTC50L, a heavy-duty projector that automatically switches between two bulbs on a customizable schedule to run for extended (and they mean really extended) periods without any down time.
According to Sanyo, the XTC50L uses the industry’s first lamp selection system, which can be set to swap bulbs in one of two ways. In alternating mode, it will switch between bulbs on a preset interval (like 24 hours) to give each bulb a rest, while in relay mode, it will burn the first one into extinction, automatically switching to number two at the moment of failure.
With both bulbs combined, the projector offers about 6,000 hours of continuous run time, which translates to over 8 months of nonstop usage. Just don’t calculate the electricity tab for running a 330-watt lamp for that long.
Sanyo will make the XTC50L available by the end of January for $7,495.
