Affordable excellence makes the TCL 6-series the TV to buy in 2018

If you’ve been following our CES 2018 coverage of TVs, then you’ve seen some pretty outlandish, aspirational stuff. Samsung’s 146-in MicroLED “The Wall,” LG’s 65-inch 4K roll-up OLED, and Sony’s 10,000-nit 85-inch 8K LED prototype powered by the company’s X1 Ultimate processor are all grabbing headlines across the ‘net. But what about a TV you might actually buy in 2018? That’s where the TCL 6-Series 4K HDR LED TV comes in.

TCL surprised us in 2017 with its P-series TV, a 55-inch 4K HDR LED with Dolby Vision and the Roku TV operating system built in for just $650. With a 72-zone full array local dimming backlight (FALD) system and expanded color gamut, the P-series performed as well as top-tier TVs from the likes of LG, Samsung, and Sony, but with a much lower price tag.

The new TCL 6-Series builds on TCL’s success, adding more zones to its backlight system and expanding the series to offer a 65-inch model, which has even more backlight zones. With these upgrades and some tweaks to picture processing, the new 6-Series is poised to be one of the best TVs to buy in 2018, and likely the most affordable excellence available on the market.

As is generally the case with CES, manufacturers don’t give exact availability dates and don’t discuss pricing, but if history is any indicator, TCL will let us know when the new 6-Series will be in stores and online for purchase, and just how affordable it will be.

We’ll be bringing the 6-Series in for a full review when it is available, so check back with us in early spring to find out just how good this TV is. For now, keep up with all the latest CES coverage from Digital Trends and be sure to check out our YouTube channel for continuing live coverage from our broadcast booth.

Hisense teases 110-inch, 10,000-nit TV ahead of CES 2024
The Hisense 110UX ULED X mini-LED 4K TV.

Hisense says its new 110UX TV will do something no other consumer display has ever done: deliver 10,000 nits of peak brightness. The 110UX, which has a 110-inch diagonal screen size and apparently has its own console-style stand and audio system, will get its official debut at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas in January.

In typical fashion for a CES sneak peek, Hisense hasn't released any pricing or availability information for the scorchingly bright 110UX. The new model is based on Hisense's ULED X technology platform which it first announced in 2023 with the debut of the Hisense UX.

Hisense just debuted the world’s largest mini-LED TV at 100 inches
100-inch Hisense U8K 4K mini-LED TV.

Hisense now makes the world's largest mini-LED backlit 4K TV: the 100-inch U8K TV. It announced the new TV at CEDIA Expo, the annual conference for AV professionals and installers, taking place in Denver, CO from September 7-9. The new TV might be the world's biggest, but its price is surprisingly accessible (at least, for a TV of this size) at $10,000. Hisense's TVs are often deeply discounted, sometimes as soon as they go on sale, so we expect this price to drop soon. It will be available from retailers like Best Buy and Amazon later this fall.

"Popularity and consumer interest in big screens continues to grow," said David Gold, President of Hisense USA, in a press release. "While our laser TV lineup can reach up to an impressive 300-inches, we also wanted to offer an option that showcases Hisense’s superior mini-LED experience, and there was no better choice than what’s proving to be our most award-winning TV to date: the U8K Series. We’re the only brand offering mini-LED at the 100-inch size, at this performance level, with this feature set, and a value package."
