DVR pioneer TiVo and Hollywood entertainment publication Entertainment Weekly (or just EW) have announced a new partnership that will let users tap into EW’s “What to Watch” recommendations and have the programs automatically recorded for viewing. Under the new program, you might not be able to discuss all the details of all the hip new shows around the water cooler the next day, but at least you’ll be able to say “Wait, don’t say anything, I have it on my TiVo at home!” Voilà! Your day becomes that much more productive.
“This partnership creates an exciting new service for our fans, closing the loop between the entertainment choices we spotlight and our audience’s ability to connect directly to those entertainment experiences,” said EW publisher Scott Donaton, in a statement.
TiVo characterizes EW as a “trusted voice,” noting that the two companies can offer a “holistic solution” that makes EW’s recommendation service that much more valuable to both EW readers and TiVo users. In addition to recommendations, TiVo users will be able to tap into EW.com’s original programming via their DVRs, including programs like Just a Minute,Ausiello TV, and Idolatry.
The service should start up in the next few months, at which point TiVo will tell customers how they can tap into it. Neither company has mentioned any additional costs or fees associated with the new service.
